Cataract Surgeries Begin For 44 Residents After 3 – Day Medical Outreach

Free cataract removal surgery today commenced at the Eye Foundation Hospital in Ikorodu for the 44 residents who were detected to have the disease during a 3 – Day free tests conducted by the Rhoda Youth Foundation.

The humanitarian organisation organised the free eye screening, free eye glasses and free cataract surgery exercise in conjunction with the Eye Foundation Hospital, Ikorodu and Relief for Human Suffering Foundation.

A total of 24 patients were detected during the 2 – day free eyes screening orgsnised by the Rhoda Centre at its Solomade Office in Ikorodu, held between 21st and 22nd, June, 2022, while the remaining 20 are patients from another exercise held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Ita – Oluwo, on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

A total of 178 free eye glasses were also given to the residents during the 3 – day outreach programme.

Mr Rotimi Akeem Erogbogbo, Chairman, Rhoda Youth Centre, described the intervention programme to protect residents from going blind, as a huge success.

“The 3 days Eye Screening excercise organised by Rhoda Youth Centre, in conjuction with Relief for Human Suffering Foundation and the Eye Foundation, Ikorodu, was a huge success”, he said.

“During the excercise, which took place in Ikorodu and Ita – Oluwo, a total number of 44 Cataract patients were identified and 178 others were issued with glasses.

While stating that free surgery has commenced for cataract parents, Mr Erogbogbo also appealed to privileged individuals to support Rhoda in preventing residents from going blind.

“Cataract surgery has begun in earnest for those with Cataract diseases”, he said.

“A total number of 381 residents benefited from this program. Be part of this project. None should go blind in our society. To God be the Glory”.

Total patients screened at the RCCG outreach were 142 residents.

20 Cataract cases recorded and 76 free eye glasses distributed to beneficiaries.

76 cases of Presbyopia, 5 Allergy, 2 Glaucoma, 16.
Ref error and 4 Pterygium cases were also recorded at Ita – Oluwo programme.
