Lagos Sand Suppliers Association Inducts Past, Present Leaders Into Hall Of Fame

The Ikorodu Oga District of the Lagos State Central Sand and Granite Suppliers Association (LASCESGRSA) has honoured some of its past and surviving leaders for their efforts in founding and sustaining the group to what it is today.

The leaders were inducted into the LASCESGRSA Hall of Fame at a special event held at the District Secretariat, Igbe Laara, Igbogbo, Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, on Monday, June 28, 2022.

Late leaders of the assocoation inducted at the event, which had the presence of family members of the inductees were Alhaji Aina Sala Black, LASCESGRSA founding father, Alhaji Sanusi Agbabiaka Sodeinde, LASCESGRSA icon, Pa Jomoh Aluko, LASCESGRSA icon, Alhaji Muritala Adisa Alegunleye, LASCESGRSA icon, Alhaji Babatunde Adejumo Ematunwo, LASCESGRSA icon and Mr Adebayo Abiodun Oyewole, also LASCESGRSA icon.

The two living leaders that were also inducted are Alhaja Sikirat Black and Chief (Mrs) Ebudola Odusanya (Jp.).

Chairman, LASCESGRSA, Ikorodu Oga Disrict, Alhaji Jamiu Shonubi, speaking at the unveiling ceremony which also had chieftains of the association’s Elders Council in attendance, said that the initiative to honour founding fathers came to him divinely.

Alhaji Shonubi, who is the third District Chairman since the inception of LASCESGRSA, added that it is necessary to remember those that spent their times, energy and resources to make the profession worthwhile and engaging for many others who now earn means of livelihood from supplying Sand and Granite.

“This is special as you all know and it’s first of its kind. It was like a vision when it came to me and I know that it’s divine. Nobody told me about it and when it came, I knew that’s what God wantd me to do”, Alhaji Shonubi said.

“We are gathered here today to remember our past leaders that contributed immensely to the development of our association and made it what we are proud of today.

“People like Alhaji Saka Black, Chief Sanusi Sodeinde and others. Many of our members do not know that these people paved ways for the work that they are doing today. But today, we are going to unveil their photographs so that we all could see their faces and acknowledge their contributions”, the District Chairman said.

“We are doing this to honour their memories, recall and acknowledge their sacrifices and impacts”, he added.

“This is also our way of institutionalising and remembering them, so that when we too are gone, we can also be remembered by those coming after us.

Also speaking, Alhaji AbdulRafiu Adeleye Sowple, an executive member, said:

“It is our profound gratitude to remember those that started the association.

“They worked tirelessly on the formation of the association to be what it is today. Today, we shall unveil their photographs for proper remembrance so that those who do not know them to know them”.

Mrs Gbemisola Atewologun, District Organising Secretary, called the names of the honorees one after the other for unveiling.

Representatives of the honorees’ families and that of the association that were called for goodwill messages recalled their contributions and impacts.

Members of the honorees families also thanked the Alhaji Shonubi led LASCESGRSA executives in Ikorodu Oga District, for the honour done to their parents, patriarchs and matriarchs.

LASCESGRSA Ikorodu Oga Didtrict has six zones and about one thousand members.

Also at the ceremony, the District Chairman announced the constitution of two committees for the planning of the 2022 Ikorodu Oga Day, Igbogbo Day, Ajede Luwasa Day and Imota Ayayo Day celebrations.
