Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the Lagos Deputy Governor, on Tuesday intensified his consultations ahead of 2027 Governorship by visiting chieftains of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Ikorodu Division, despite challenges confronting the consensus arrangements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
During his visit, he consulted with Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, a former Secretary to the Lagos State Government and former Commissioner for Education, and Sen. Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works and former Senator representing Lagos East in their Igbogbo residences in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State.

Dr. Hamzat was accompanied by Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, former Senator representing Lagos West and a Mushin Constituency political leader; Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State for Defence and former Senator representing Lagos Central; Hon. Bode Oyedele, GAC chieftain, Chief Musiq Are, APC chieftain, Hon. Rasak Ajala, the former chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, Special Adviser on Rural Development among others.
Among the Ikorodu Division political leaders that were joined in the visitation in Igbogbo were Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku, Hon. Although it was a closed-door consultation, it was gathered that Asiwaju Basorun insisted during the meeting that Ikorodu Division deserves better recognition in the state.
Basorun further emphasised that Ikorodu’s long standing loyalty to progressive politics and its significant contribution to the state’s economy and electoral success have not been adequately matched with commensurate infrastructural development and political inclusion.
Aroyewun on his own pledged the LCDA’s support for the party’s democratic processes.

The Deputy Governor, in his response pledged to prioritise equitable regional development if he emerged as the APC flag bearer and eventually the governor of the state.
Dr Hamzat had earlier met with Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former deputy governor in Lagos State and member of the APC apex body in Ikorodu Division at his Solomade home in Ikorodu.
Several political leaders in Ikorodu also joined Prince Ogunleye in welcoming the deputy executive governor of Lagos State.
