-Unveil plans to tackle kidnapping, insecurity

The chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), has revealed that he has been receiving support from others that aspired to be the candidate of the party.
He also made known that he has been harmonizing their programmes into his own GLORY Agenda upon which he sought to be the LCDA Chairman.
Aroyewun made the revelations while appearing on a radio programme, Politics 360 on the IKD 106.1FM, where he spoke on the topic, “Building the Future: AROYEWUN’s Game Plan for Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA” on Saturday.

“We have so many aspirants before the primaries who are equally qualified for the position. In fact, we are friends, brothers and relatives.
“One thing is common among us, we are all passionate about the development of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA. I was chosen not because I was the best among them, I am only fortunate.
“A whole lot of those that we contested together have been giving me support since after the primary, necessary advice, counsel; and we have been sitting down together to discuss their programmes with ours. The intention is to merge them together and come up with something meaningful that would bring more development to Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.”

The APC flag bearer furthered, “The main goal is about the development of Igbogbo/Baiyeku and they have been giving me support which I am appreciative of. We are setting good examples for others in Lagos State and beyond.
“Our own agenda is tagged, ‘Glory Agenda’ which is about Good Governance and Green Intervention. We are talking about Learning, Optimal Wellness, Security, Culture, Road and other physical development, Youth and Sports Development.”

Aroyewun said that his GLORY Agenda encompasses the needs of our people and their challenges with clear understanding of what the current government is doing and plans to consolidate on what is on the ground.
Speaking on how his administration would tackle insecurity if he is elected, Aroyewun said the council has an effective system to tackle any security challenges, also called for collective involvement of stakeholders in tackling cases of kidnapping which has been prevalent in the last two years in Igbe communities and Agunfoye.
He said that his administration would empower and motivate the council’s JTF to give their best.

“We must first of all agree that security issues are national. The kidnapping is not peculiar to Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA alone. However, we understand our challenges and problems in Igbogbo/Baiyeku. The Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA JTF is the most active in the whole of Lagos State, I stand to be corrected and I can defend that anywhere.
“The Commander of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA JTF is the overall Commander in Lagos State. That is to tell you how we have been able to work on our security.

“On the issue of kidnapping, I live in that axis and I am affected directly and indirectly. But security is a collective responsibility of all. We must come together to fight this scourge.
“No doubt, there has been state and federal interventions and the CDAs have also been doing their parts, but when we have not gotten the result we cannot stop.
“We will continue to empower our JTF. We will continue to encourage them and other security outfits,” he said.

He also advocated for stronger collaboration and synergy between the council, state and the federal governments especially among their security arms to effectively tackle the menace.
“Collaboration has to be stronger. I want to plead with the Lagos State Government, because those people (kidnappers) usually come through the swamp and return through the same way after their operations.
“There is a need for total clearance of the water channel in that axis. There is a need to clear the swamp from the Afa Bridge down to Ayetoro and this is beyond the LCDA. That’s why I said that the issue of synergy and collaboration is very key.

“Once we have been able to do that, we will empower our JTF more and their welfare is also very paramount. We would build and improve on what the current government is doing.
“We will improve on their welfare, equipment and synergize more with other security agencies. We will synergise more with the state and federal government to stop the menace.
“Constant engagement with stakeholders is very key because security is a responsibility of all, and we must improve on our relationship with other critical stakeholders,” Aroyewun said.
