Appeal Court Adjourns PDP’s Awesu, Shittu House Of Reps Matter Till October 31 For Hearing

The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned the matter between Mr AbdulAzeez Adekunle Awesu, and Mr Abdul – Kareem Shittu over the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the coming general elections.

The matter was adjourned till October 31, 2022, for hearing.

Awesu, who got the PDP mandate as its candidate after the primary which was later taken away from him for Shittu, had appealed the judgment of a Federal High Court also in Lagos presided over by Justice Osiagor in September, which pronounced Shittu as the party’s candidate.

At the court were many supporters of both parties sitting at the court’s lobby as the court room was already filled up.

Awesu, speaking with our reporter after stepping out of the court room, described the proceeding as fair, adding that his quest to take back his mandate is still very much on track.

“The proceeding was fair and both matters were moved to the 31st of this month. I think that the party’s appeal is going to be consolidated with my appeal. All things been equaled, we are still very much on point and on the track”, he said.

He said that Shittu’s lawyer sought the mandate of the court in restricting him from campaigning.

“They sought the permission of the court from restricting me from doing any form of political campaign pending the resolution the case that we have at hand. The main deal is going to be happening October 31st of this month.

“We pray and hope for the best”, Awesu said while walking away with his supporters that were in large number.

When met with Shittu, who was equally with his supporters, in the lobby of the court, at first, he refused to speak with our reporter, stating that he does not want to join issue with anybody or be quoted in any form.

He also accused THE IMPACT of bias, but after explaining to him that we have always been fair to all parties with proofs of coverage for both parties and the several attempts made to locate him, he said that he is hopeful that the matter would favour him.

“We are hopeful and God willing, we shall prevail. No matter what and whatever the matter is, it would eventually be concluded in a way or the other”, he said.

“May the best man win at the end of the case”, he added.

A party member who also spoke with our reporter after the court sitting, said that the court, in its ruling, has restricted Awesu from campaigning pending the determination of the matter.
