Ikorodu Heroes Holds 5th AGM, Honours Past President, Others

-Unveils plans for 2021

The Ikorodu Heroes (I – Heroes) has honoured its former President, Mr Oluwaseun Shokunbi whose 10 year tenure advanced the cause of  the developmental and social organisation and placed it on the path of greatness.

Shokunbi was honoured alongside the duo of Prince (Barr.) Wale Ogunsanya and Mr Adesola Allinson, both of whom have also served the club effectively as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively, at the 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) which marked the 12 years existence of the club.

Announcing the award, Mr Seun Elesho, the President of I – Heroes, said that the awardees have served with great commitment and are dutifully and deserving of the honour.

He commended and appreciated them for their services to the club while enjoining other members to emulate them.

Stating the achievements of I – Heroes, Mr Elesho stated that the club has embarked on community services like traffic control, speaking in defense of Ikorodu and also supported many groups with facemasks to guide against the ravaging COVID – 19 pandemic among others.

‘We have continued our traffic control programme, thereby, helping the state officials to reduce the effect of traffic on the people and our community too”, he said.

“We have continued to lend our voices to every issue that will promote and defend the Ikorodu Division.

“In addition, we produced and distributed thousands of face masks to Ikorodu residents and many organisations and did various online and print advocacy for social responsibility towards COVID-19”, he added.

While unveiling the club’s plans for the year 2021, Elesho said:

“This year, we have identified some public institutions that have no water and we intend to provide them with borehole water facilities. We are awaiting approval from the state government on this”, he said.

“We are also going to embark on an advocacy visit to all the Obas in the division to discuss education, security amongst other issues”.

He advised young people in Ikorodu to stay away from social vices and acts capable of bringing destruction to themselves and the society.

“As a group, we want to seize this opportunity to enjoin all young people to be good ambassadors of Ikorodu Division by staying off all social vices, cultism, prostitution, etc and put themself to good use for the community”, he charged.

Sir David Sunmoni, former Accountant General of Lagos State, who was a special guest of honour at the AGM, described the club as an eminent group and charged them to stay together to be stronger.

Sir Sunmoni was invited as a special guest in line with the tradition of the club to always invite a resource person to engage them on issues and also share his or her experiences with members of the club.

The special guest charged members of the club to live in harmony.

“This is an eminent group whose members have good qualifications. Endeavour to stay together  to be a strong force in your community”, he charged.

“I enjoin you all to be movers who will always drive the organization forward and towards greatness.

“You have been making waves and you should note that we are following your activities and reactions to issues. I enjoin you to do more”, Sir Sunmoni said.

“I am happy to be here at your AGM today and will still find time to spend quality time with you.

“You are not hiding in the community and we have been seeing what you have been doing.

“This is your time and if used very well, it is an investment and you must be disciplined to invest your time for future harvest”, he added.

“You should know that what you are doing will improve you, your career and community. It takes a lot of work, efforts but, nevertheless, it must be sustained. I encourage you to be focus in order to achieve your aims and objectives”, he said while charging members of the Club once again.
