Igbe Road Rehabilitation: MTN, HUAWEI Donate 300 Bags of Cement To Support Community Efforts

The efforts of the Joint Igbe Community Development Associations (CDAs) in rehabilitating the collapsed Igbe road have gotten a boost from two of the telecommunication giants in the country, MTN and HUAWEI, which have redeemed their pledges to the community by donating 300 bags of cement.

Residents of the community, led by the Chairman of the Igbe Road Rehabilitation Committee (IRRC), Pastor Adeniyi J. A, and other members of the committee, took delivery of the cements which were brought in a trailer on Thursday, December 13,2019.

The six CDAs in the area namely; Igbeyin Adun CDA, Ife Oluwa CDA, Itedo CDA, Onolu CDA, Igbe Road Zone and Otitoloju CDA, have been coordinating the efforts of the residents and institutions in the area towards making the road motorable .

Pastor J.A. Adeniyi, Chairman, IRRC, on behalf of the community, thanked the corporate firms for their donations.

“We appreciate MTN and Huawei for this good gesture to this community. We take it as a demonstration of integrity and social welfare to us. God bless their institutions”.

Speaking with THE IMPACT, Secretary of the committee, Mr Bolaji Isikalu, described the telecommunication companies’ gestures as practical demonstration of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“The is a practical delivery and fulfilment of the promise made by MTN and HUAWEI towards the rehabilitation of Igbe road being undertaken by our Joint CDA”, Mr Isikalu stated.

“300 bags of cement were brought in by a trailer and have since been off loaded. God bless the institutions that have found it worthy to fulfil their promises to our community. God bless everyone that have been an integral part of this great mission.

Mr Isikalu also revealed that a total sum of N4,583,320, has so far being raised through donations by residents, families, individual CDAs and businesses towards the project.

Some of the donors were Oluwomoju family, Engr. Aid Oduborisha, Pope James K. Aabi, Hon. Babajimi Bensn, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja, F1 Resorts, Mr Tunde Gbolade (De Sleek), Hon. Sunmi Odesanya and Alhaj Babatunde Rotinwa, Dr. Segun Bakare, Engr. Wale Onile-Ere, Mr. & Mrs. Gbadamosi, Dr. Samuel Gbengbe, Mr. & Mrs. Gbadamosi, Dr. Samuel Gbengbe among many others.

Aside financial donations, he added that some of these donors also made donations in kind too.

On the contributions of the Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, the Secretary stated:

“IBLCDA donated one tipper to move sand evacuated from the drainages from Igbe Junction to Unic Point for one day and also provided five Hausa men to work as labourers. The tipper did 5 trips”.

While also speaking on the state of the road which the joint CDAs has been working on for months, Mr Isikalu stated that:

“The road has been in a deplorable condition after the rain. Next phase of the project is grading. Once the Engineers find the state of the soil good enough to firm up, they will kick off the repair work”, he added.
