State Lawmaker Urges Sportsmanship As 32 Players Battle For Maiden AMA Snooker Championship

Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged the 32 participants in the maiden edition of his Snooker Championship, to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship during the entire tournament.

AMA made the appeal while speaking after the official draws for the tournament, held on Sunday at AMA Hotel and Suites, Ijede, emphasizing the need for players to demonstrate discipline, tolerance, fairness and respect for their opponents throughout the championship.

The 32 participants began the battle for the tournament on Satuday, with each contestant now officially aware of their first-round opponents and route to the grand finale.

Winner of the tournament will go home with ₦500,000, while the first runner up will pocket ₦300,000 and second runner-up will get ₦200,000.

The state lawmaker emphasised that victory should not be pursued at the expense of friendship and good conduct, noting that the competition was organised not only to reward talent, but also to strengthen unity and peaceful interactions among youths and sports enthusiasts.

He encouraged players to accept match results in good faith, and allow the true spirit of sportsmanship to guide their conducts at every stage of the tournament.

With the official fixtures now determined, attention will turn to Station One Lounge, Oke-Eletu, where the opening games of the AMA Snooker Championship will take place.

According to the organisers, the Round 1 of the championship will kick -off at Oke -Eletu, with 32 players, while only 16 will progress to Round 2 at Imota, and this number will further reduce to 8 that will qualify to play in Round 3 in Igbogbo.

The final 4 players will play in the grand finale at Super Mario Snooker Board, Igbe, where the star prize winner, as well as the first runner -up, second runner -up and fourth placed participant will be determined.

Organisers also revealed that five best behaved players who exhibited good sportsmanship throughout the championship will receive ₦100,000 each.

All 32 participants will also receive consolation prizes in recognition of their participation and commitment to the tournament.
