-Call for his return to House of Reps in 2023
It was a gathering of crème la de crème within the All Progressives Congress (APC), as leaders of the party alongside traditional rulers within and outside Ikorodu Division, Members of the State and National Assemblies among many other dignitaries stormed the Ikorodu Musical Village, lkorodu, to attend the grand party organised to mark Rep. Babajimi Benson’s 50th birthday.
The grand ceremony, which was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, was the climax of the golden jubilee of the birthday anniversary of the young lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Defense, after series of other events have been organized for him by various groups and individuals to mark milestone achievement.
His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) KABIR Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu and First Permament Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, was the Chairman of the occasion which also had the royal presence of other Obas such as the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Akeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Bashir Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty, Oba David Balogun, the Eweye of Isiwu and His Royal Majesty, Oba Segun Benson, the Olojodu of Ojodu.
The King of Fuji music, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) who is a close ally of the celebrant, was on ground to entertained the royal and others guests and as expected, held the entire gathering spellbound with his great performance.
Also present were Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor and Chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfumi Basorun, former Secretary to the State Government and Chieftain of the GAC and Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, former Commissioner for Agriculture and former Vice Chairman, Lagos East among others.
The occasion also presented the dignitaries to reflect on the impressive legislative and representative performance of the celebrant as Member of the House of Representatives, while verdict were unanimously delivered that he should be returned to the House in 2023 to continue his legislative duties.
Oba Shotobi, while listing the achievements of the second term lawmaker, stated that his incredible performance made royal fathers sanctioned his third term reelection and the conferment of chieftaincy titles on him and his wife.
He added that Rep. Benson has impacted massively on Ikorodu Division (Federal Constituency).
“All that they have been saying about him ( Jimi Benson) are true. He has facilitated construction of many roads, building and rehabilitation of schools, empowering the youths and establishing a radio station (106.1FM) among many others.
“All the traditional rulers are benefitting from his good gestures because he has been supporting the royal institution in the division. What we needed to be doing now is that we should be praying for him to secure the third term.
“Whenever that I am travelling outside the country, Jimi also go with me and whenever he is unable to, he will always make adequate preparations for my stay”.
And to climax his address, Oba Shotobi, on behalf of other traditional rulers in Ikorodu Division (which also doubles as the Ikorodu Federal Constituency which Rep. Benson is representing), endorsed the celebrant for a third term.
Former Lagos Deputy Governor and GAC member, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, in his remarks, commended the lawmaker, prayed for him and wished him well.
Rep Abass Adigun (Agboworin) who is representing the Ibadan South East and Ibadan North East Federal Constituency and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), speaking, described the celebrant as a phenomenon in the National Assembly.
He pleaded with the celebrant’s party and Ikorodu Constituents to ensure that he is re – elected into the National Assembly.
Builder Sesan Daini, Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA, speaking on behalf of Council Chairmen, described Rep. Benson as a politician with unusual traits of average politician, adding that he has done very well with his representation.
He assured that the federal lawmaker would do more if re-elected to represent Ikorodu for the third term.
Sir David Sunmoni, Pro – Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State University (LASU), said that he is proud of Rep Benson’s achievements.
While stating that he has been working tirelessly for the development of the division, Sir Suunmoni congratulated and wished him many more happy years.
In her goodwill message, Alhaja Muyibat Wonuola A. Folami, former Commissioner for Justice & Attorney – General, Lagos State, also commended and congratulated the celebrant whom she said has made Ikorodu proud and deserves another term.
Other representatives also spoke glowingly about Hon. Benson and agreed that he has performed and deserving of a return ticket to the National Assembly.
Also in attendance were members of the prestigious Oriwu Club, traditional chiefs, LGA/Ward executives, representatives of youth groups, artisans, Community Development Associations (CDAs)/Community Development Committees (CDCs) among many others.
