The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, during the week commenced the “Light Up Imota LCDA” Initiative, aimed at installing solar – powered street lights on major roads within the council and strategic communities.
The exercise which commenced on Tuesday, with the installation of solar-powered street lights on the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) Road and the council secretariat premises, marked another significant milestone in his administration’s drive to improve public infrastructure and enhance the quality of life of residents.
The project is expected to improve visibility at night, strengthen security, and boost commercial and social activities within the benefiting communities.

Speaking on the project, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering people-centred projects that respond directly to the needs and aspirations of the residents. He stressed that reliable street lighting remains an essential component of community development, public safety, and economic growth.
The Council Chairman explained that the adoption of solar-powered street lights reflects his administration’s determination to embrace renewable energy solutions while providing sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly infrastructure.
He disclosed that additional roads and communities across Imota LCDA would benefit from similar interventions in the coming months.

Commending the initiative, the Chairman of Unity Avenue CDA and Baale of Salabo Oresegun Community, Chief Sofile Adebowale Wasiu, described the installation as a timely intervention that would significantly reduce criminal activities, improve nighttime movement, and guarantee a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians, and residents.
Several residents also applauded the council’s intervention, describing it as another demonstration of responsive and purposeful leadership. They noted that the project reflects the administration’s determination to fulfil its campaign promises and improve the living conditions of the people. They equally appealed to residents to safeguard the facilities against vandalism to ensure their longevity.

The “Light Up Imota LCDA” initiative is one of several developmental programmes being implemented under the leadership of Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele. Since assuming office, the administration has continued to prioritise infrastructure renewal, environmental sustainability, quality healthcare, improved education, youth empowerment, and efficient public service delivery across the council.
As work continues on the project, residents in other parts of Imota LCDA have expressed optimism that the solar street lighting initiative will soon be extended to their communities, further advancing the council’s vision of building a safer, more secure, and economically vibrant local government where development reaches every neighbourhood.
