IMCA Parleys Nigerian Police To Strengthen Community Policing In Ikorodu

The Ikorodu Muslim Community Association (IMCA) has called for annual security summit for Ikorodu Division, as a way of strengthening community policing and improve relationship between the community and security agencies.

IMCA Executives made the call during the continuation of its strategic engagement with critical stakeholders across the Ikorodu Division. The association paid a courtesy visit to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikorodu Divisional Headquarters, CSP Clement Akinola, during the week. The visit formed part of the Executive Council’s deliberate efforts to strengthen relationships with key institutions and stakeholders whose roles are critical to the peace, security, and development of Ikorodu.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, the Coordinator, Imam Abdul Hafeez Abojututu, reaffirmed IMCA’s commitment to constructive engagement with security agencies and other stakeholders. He emphasised that the association would continue to explore ways of contributing positively to the peace, security, unity, and development of Ikorodu Division.

He called for the establishment of a regular interaction with security agencies, stressing that annual Security Summit for Ikorodu Division, would provide an avenue for early intervention, community sensitisation, security awareness, information sharing, and stronger collaboration between security agencies and residents.

IMCA also expressed its readiness to support initiatives that strengthen community policing and improve the relationship between residents and security agencies.

In his response, CSP Clement Akinola, expressed his appreciation to IMCA, for the visit and commended the association for taking the initiative to engage the Police on matters affecting the wider community.

DPO Akinola welcomed the proposal for an annual Security Summit, acknowledging the importance of regular dialogue and collaboration among security agencies, religious institutions, community leaders, and residents in addressing security challenges.

He also encouraged the muslim community to consider the Nigeria Police Force as a career option for their young and brilliant children, urging parents and community leaders to encourage qualified youths to take advantage of Police recruitment opportunities and contribute their skills to national service.

He expressed his willingness to maintain a cordial relationship with IMCA and support initiatives aimed at promoting peace and security across Ikorodu Division.

As a gesture of goodwill and appreciation for the Police’s efforts in maintaining law and order, the association presented two executive chairs to the Ikorodu Police Division.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to stronger community-security collaboration and a safer Ikorodu Division.
