-As 3-year-old victim of abuse gets scholarship

Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development with young Michael Abayomi and others, at the formalization of the scholarship agreement.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende has declared the willingness of the Ministry to collaborate with public-spirited individuals and organisations that support vulnerable citizens.

The Commissioner gave the charge at a official ceremony organised by the Ministry to formalise the scholarship agreement between Michael Abayomi’s family and Gidi Real Estate Investment Ltd, held recently in Alausa.
The commissioner said: “The state government cannot do it alone. We are always ready to partner with any individual or group that can assist us in alleviating the burden on our citizens. We appreciate Gidi Real Estate Investment Ltd for this noble gesture and encourage others to follow suit.”

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed deep concern over the abuse of the boy.

“We were deeply disturbed by the physical abuse of Michael Abayomi. To ensure it was not ignored, we immediately took appropriate action to secure justice and provide the necessary medical care for the child. We are pleased today that the situation has turned into a positive outcome.”

Recall that Master Michael Abayomi, a 3 – year- old pupil of Christ – Mitots School, at Isawo Road in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, was assaulted by her teacher, Mrs Stella Nwadigbo, who has been arrested and undergoing police investigation.

The incident generated serous public outcry and the school management had to temporarily close the school.
