Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA), Chairman, House Committee on Public-Private Partnership, who is representing the Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, is rounding – off year 2023 in a very responsible way by offering his constituents his account of representation since he assumed office in June.

His account of stewardship, which proves that he has been able to justify the mandate given to him by the people of Ikorodu Constituency II, at the last general elections, covers Educational Initiatives, Vocational Training and Empowerment, Public Infrastructure and Electricity Crisis, Public Infrastructure and Electricity Crisis, Community Development Projects, Economic Empowerment and Employment.

In a statement, which he personally signed on Saturday, Hon. Aro said that the report encompasses his efforts towards delivering his campaign promises and his duty as representative of his people.

“Season’s greetings! It is my privilege to present a comprehensive report on my six months in office as your representative at the Lagos State House of Assembly. Since my inaugural sitting in June 2023, I have diligently worked towards fulfilling both my legislative responsibilities and the commitments outlined in my Manifesto”, Hon. Aro said.

His stewardship of account is presented below:

Educational Initiatives:

Collaborating with the Students’ Union bodies across Ikorodu Constituency II, I initiated educational projects to support vulnerable children’s pursuit of education. Notably, I distributed 50 GCE forms.

Additionally, l facilitated the admission of at least 50 students into universities and model colleges in Lagos State.

I commissioned a team of professionals to conduct comprehensive research on the state of primary, secondary, and tertiary education in Ikorodu Constituency II. The findings revealed substantial areas that required urgent attention. In light of this, I am committed to sponsoring a minimum of three hundred (300) out-of-school primary school pupils, starting from January 2024.

Vocational Training and Empowerment:
In July 2023, approximately 60 individuals were enrolled in vocational training programmes, culminating in their graduation in December 2023. To further support them, I will provide the necessary equipment and offer loans/grants to enable the successful practice of the skills learned.

Public Infrastructure and Electricity Crisis:
On August 28th, 2023, I addressed the deliberate eighth-year power outage affecting our Igbopa London Community in Ijede, on the floor of Lagos State House of Assembly.
This resulted in the establishment of an Ad hoc committee to investigate and provide a permanent solution to the electricity crisis.

Community Development Projects:
Between August and November, I facilitated the grading and palliative measures on vital roads in our constituency, including:
∆Ire-Agunfoye, Igbogbo
∆ Ijede major road,
∆ Igbopa road, Ijede.
∆ Abule Eko to ewu owa, Ijede.
∆Ginti-Igbe road,
∆ Elepe Community road,
∆Igbogbo-Baiyeku Road.
∆Oreta/Offin road.
∆ Aje Street, Imota

Economic Empowerment:
In November 2023, I allocated N50 million to support women who are into small-scale businesses across Ikorodu Constituency II. This financial assistance aims to enhance and expand their enterprises, fostering economic growth within our community.

Beginning from the first quarter of 2024, leveraging the potential of our water bodies, a substantial investment of approximately one billion naira will be allocated to the Fish Hub Project. This initiative is geared towards generating thousands of employment opportunities, alleviating poverty, and addressing the issue of fish scarcity in Lagos State.

Employment:
Through my recommendations, at least fifteen (15) individuals already secured employment opportunities.

As I reflect on these accomplishments, I am committed to continual learning and improvement in serving you in the year 2024 and beyond. Your support and feedback are invaluable as we collaboratively work towards the betterment of our community.

Sincerely,

Hon. Abiodun Moshood Aro (AMA),
Chairman, House Committee on Public-Private Partnership.
