The Chairman, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, Builder Sesan Daini, has stated that residents of Olu – Odo will have no reason to send their children to primary schools outside the community as the newly built school will commence operation in January 2023.

He revealed that advertisements for enrolment will be released before the end of this year for parents to enroll their children and wards.

If this happens, the community will be having a public school almost 39 years after the request was made to the Lagos State Government which referred it to the then Ikorodu Local Government, when the six existing councils were still one.

Daini made the revelation at the 2022 Budget/Stakeholders’ Forum held at the council secretariat on Monday, November 7, 2022.

“There was a request from the Olu-Odo community. The original letter from the community pertaining to the request was written in 1983. That was about 39 years ago. The letter was written to the state government in 1983 and it was directed to Ikorodu Local Government”, the Council Chairman said.

“Olu-Odo is a fast growing community with the influx of people on daily basis and all the children in the community have to trek from the community to attend school elsewhere because there is no public school in the community”.

The Council Chairman said that he promised to look into the community’s request when their request was again made when he resumed office in his first term, which he promised to look into.

He stated that the intervention came from Rep. Babajimi Benson, the representative of Ikorodu Federal Constituency who provided a block of six classrooms.

“When we resumed office, the same letter was written to me in 2019 and we promised we would look into it. Last year, when we were about making sure that the community has a school, the family of Olu -Odo gave us one acre of land on the major road of the community”, he said.

“I want to sincerely appreciate the Olu – Odo family for doing that because a plot of land in that area now is about 25 Million naira and they released 6 plots of land to us which means that the family gave us about 150 Million naira.

“When we were about to start the construction, Honourable Babajimi Benson, in his usual way of assisting the entire community and Ikorodu Division as whole, gave us a block of six classrooms which has been completed on the site of the Olu – Odo Primary School”, he added.

“Though, the block of six classrooms has been completed, but some other things are still needed to make the school running. It needs a toilet, borehole and some other facilities, for which we have forwarded our requests to the Local Government Education Authority and the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB)”, he said.

While stating that the council has also provided some of the facilities needed for the take-off of the school, Daini assured stakeholders at the meeting that the school would commence operation in January next year.

“I am glad to say that the council has built about eight toilets and borehole facilities and other necessary facilities that are needed to make the school running”, he said.

“By God’s grace, before the end of this year, you will hear our jingles and other messages for the commencement of the primary school by January (2023)”, he assured.
