Lagos Residents Mobilise For Senator Abiru As 2022 ‘Lagos Man Of The Year’

Residents of Lagos East Senatorial District have launched a massive campaign for Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru to emerge as the 2022 ‘Lagos Man of the Year’.

Abiru has been shortlisted for the award  alongside other prominent individuals like Mr Tokunbo Wahab, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Peince Anofi Olanrewaju Elegushi, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Damilola Oke – Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Mrs Adenike Adekabi, General Manager, Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA).

Others are Mr Adebola Kazeem Adedotun, Managing Director/CEO, First Bank Group, Otunba (Dr) Adekunle Olubola Hassan, Founder, Chairman & CEO, Summit Healthcare Hospital Ltd (operator of Eye Foundation Hopspital), Mr Haruna Jalo – Waziri, Managing Director/CEO, Central Securities Cleaning System, Mr Olumide Emmanuel, Chairman/CEO, Commonsense Group and Dr Wale Olaoye, Group Managing Director/CEO, Halogen Group.

Voting closes on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

While the award organisers has called for votes from all Lagosians to dedicated lines, residents of Lagos East Senatorial District have mounted massive campaign for their representative at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Sen. Abiru whom many have adjudged to be deserving of the honur.

There was general agreement that Senator  Abiru’s representation since he came on board  about 20 months ago through a bye – election, has been unprecedented in the history  of the Senatorial District.

Advocates for his emergence also adduced reasons why he should be voted as ‘Lagos State Man of the Year 2022’.

A statement titled, ‘Part One Of Why Lagosians Should Vote For Sen. Abiru,  states that:

“Senator Tokunbo Abiru, in his genuine concern to positively impact lives, sets up the Senator Tokunbo Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL), a purpose-driven innovation space to create employment opportunities, inspired grass-roots innovations, build partnerships and drive economic prosperity by solving significant social and business problems.

“It has five pilot programmes namely:

“STEM Education for Senior Secondary School Students to introduce them to physical computing through the use of Arduino, an open-source electronic prototyping platform that enables users to create interactive electronic objects.

“Tech Talent Development is a development programme that will identify young people who are interested in a career in technology and make them entry-level software engineers.

“Business 101 for Artisans and Creatives is to help talented creatives and artisans (fashion, design, crafts)  understand how to use technology in their business for inspiration, better, how to secure sales, and how to connect the medium with large corporations.

“Lagos East Teachers’ Fellowship is for school teachers aimed at introducing them to inquiry-based learning and the use of technology in the classroom.

“Startup Accelerator Programme is for young people who have business ideas that can be amplified by technology. The aim is to accelerate their growth with hands-on business support.
