Mr Eniola ‘wake Up’ Adeyemi, an aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat (standing 3rd right), addressing journalists at the press conference for the declaration of his intention to represent Ikorodu on Tuesday. With him, Alhaji Musliu Sulaimon, APC leader (3rd left(, Mr Jamiu Odunsi, CDA Chairman (left), ComradeBalogun Aderemi, President, Students’ Union Government (SUG), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) (2nd right), Comrade Oni Olawale, NAPS National Senate Clerk (right) and a guest (2nd left) at the press conference.

Mr Eniola ‘Wake Up’ Adeyemi, the young aspirant for the sole Ikorodu Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has assured the Ikorodu Constituents that he will sponsor Bills that will improve the Creative, Waterways and Health sectors and consequently have positive impact on Ikorodu, if he is elected as their representative.

The aspirant, who is vying to be a State Assembly lawmaker, made the assurances on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, during his formal declaration which held at the Ijomu house of his late father (Asiwaju Segun Wake Up Adeyemi), who was  a former apex leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Charging party delegates and entire lkorodu residents to vote for him as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming primary election and general elections, Eniola said that a vote for him is a vote for future.

“A vote for me is a vote for your children and your future. I am the only one that belong to all the available interest groups in Ikorodu and that means that I am related to all the party chieftains, members and entire residents in one way or the other”, Eniola said.

“We have done our consultations and met with various interest groups and we are seeking for the support and cooperation of delegates which has been assured. By the grace of God, we are very certain of victory”.

The young aspirant, who is a major player in the entertainment industry, said that if given the mandate to become a State lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I, he would sponsor a ‘Creative lndustry bill’ to tap into the abundant creative talents in the grassroots and make the industry more lucrative.

He also pledged constituents that he would  sponsor another Bill to ensure that waterways are clean and redeveloped to promote tourism in the state and another one on the need to upgrade Primary Health Centres (PHCs).

“I will sponsor a Bill tagged, ‘Creative Industry Bill’, which will be channeled around appreciating talents. Skit-making is not movie making but there is money in it. Government is not seeing it as an investment where its needs to invest in and make policies that will generate employment in  that area ”, Eniola Adeyemi said.

“Why don’t we have Ikorodu – Oga Hub, a tech village that has to do with 5D technology to make it easy to shoot movie”, he asked.

“Why can’t we understand that our talents are raw which can bring money if developed. The Bill will make us tap into that”, Eniola , again asked.

Another area the aspirant pledged to concentrate on is making lkorodu waterways friendly and developing them  to enhance their tourism potentials.

“I know the problems of Ikorodu, especially the security challenges and l know that our community security personnel are really trying in this regard”, he said.

“I will also focus on our waterways which are so dirty and polluted and nobody is talking about it. We need to clear our waterways. We have more than seven communities that have access to the lagoon – Ipakan. Ilemeren, Egbin, Bayeku, Oreta, Offin, Ibeshe , Ebute among others. There is also no Beach house in lkorodu.

“Who want to do a Beach house when there is no security?  How can we make Ikorodu’s beaches look like those in Badagry, Lekki and other areas. Why would people go to Ilase which is 45minutes drive on water, when you can get to a beach in Ikorodu within minutes and enjoy yourself?

“We have potentials that we are not tapping into and we must tap into them.

“Also, there are issues with our Primary Health Centres (PHCs). I was born in one of them in Ikorodu and lived at Obale for over six years and I can tell you the state of the facility at the Ita – Elewa some years back, though, the government has recently raised the bar.

“I plan to legislate on turning all the PHCs into Comprehensive Health Centres with Medical Directors. We need further restructuring, improvement and funding. I promise to use my capacity as your representative to do more than that”, Eniola said.

The young aspirant charged that Ikorodu and Lagos State at large to embrace modern technological ways if good governance is to be achieved, adding that only the youthful aspirant like him could be that change agent.

“The world is evolving; science is changing a lot of things; cultures are becoming outdated; arts are becoming obsolete. Ours, as a new generation, is to assist our society and humanity in general to recreate and evolve modern approaches to social, economic,  political and other engagements for maximum outputs that would benefit all”, he said during the press conference.

“That is why it is our duty to stand up to become that change agent, especially in the political arena. We shall do this with the responsibility to join others in building the peaceful society which will rest on the principles of social justice, equity and fairness and where different actors work in cooperation with one another.

“As a resolve, we have embraced a new approach to representation, and that is why I am venturing fully into the political scene to represent the largest voice in the state, to use our power, ability, capacity and capability to bring sustainable development into our social, economic and political order, and deviate from the culture of frivolous gifts distribution as dividends of democracy.

“We intend doing this by sponsoring bills that will promote youth inclusiveness and give them sustainable empowerment. This is the only way to assist them in making effective and efficient use of their God-given abilities for the development of Ikorodu, Ikorodu Division, Lagos East and Lagos State as a whole. This will be one of my priorities and I am committed to it.

“As a young entrepreneur, I have invested in entertainments, products marketing and other related ideas. This has provided me with resourceful contacts that would come handy in empowering our youths in terms of making them productive and adopting new ways of doing things. These contacts will be used in training our youths in innovative and entrepreneurship skills.

“Through this, we are not only making them earn a living and contributing to the economic development of the society, but also redirecting their knowledge from the negative use of technology to a more positive and enterprising engagements.

“Through entertainment, we shall help the society to promote freedom, responsibility, social tolerance, social justice and equality of opportunities for youths.

“We have abundant creative talents in our midst waiting to be tapped, this is what we are going to be using our legislative and representative power to do and in doing that, they will be assisted to rediscover their inbuilt power to change their personal lives and spread positive vibes into the society through entertainment”, he said.

A leader of the ruling APC in Ikorodu, Alhaji Musliu Sulaimon, popularly called, ‘Ola4’, said that Eniola Adeyemi is a capable aspirant who has been doing a lot for youths and others in Ikorodu long before he thought of coming into active politics.

He said that he is one of the young men that supported the #EndSARS protest, a movement to stop the police brutality of helpless residents, and for which a protest was held in Ikorodu, and which tension was doused thereafter.

“The aspirant is capable and have what it takes to represent Ikorodu. He played a great role during and after #EndSARS protest in this division. In fact, he prepared people’s minds not to be worried because it was a youthful challenge which would not engulf the society and with his support and that of others, we were able to manage the protest in Ikorodu”, the party leader said.

“He has been doing a lot for the community. He sponsored provision of boreholes just to assist the community, some of them are done five years ago.

“Even when we had problem at Majidun, as a dredger, he played a key role which effectively helped to bring succour to the people of that area.

“Today, Eniola Adeyemi has cried out that he wants to contest for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat in the House of Assembly. He is our boy who can do it. He’s up to the task.

“What we need is youthful energy in the state and not allowing elders alone to dominate the political offices. That is why I deem it fit to openly support him because he needs our support and we should support him because his late father, during his time, was with us in the system, hence, it’s time we assist his son to get to the Promiseland which is the Assembly which he is aspiring for.

ComradeBalogun Aderemi, President, Students’ Union Government (SUG), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), also speaking at the briefing, pledged the students and youths’ support for the aspirant.

“I see this as a way of taking the bull by the horn. We, the youths, are with him”, he said.

The CDA Chairman, Mr Jamiu Odunsi, also commended the aspirants for his contributions towards the development of the area and people

Also at the briefing were Iwalokun Tunde Lawrence, NAPS National Vice President, officials of the National Association of Nigerian Polytechnic Students, Executives of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology University (LASUSTECH), party and family members as well as friends and associates.
