African Church Congregation Joins Other Christians To Mark Palm Sunday

Christians in Ikorodu observed the Psalm Sunday celebration with their congregation stepping out on the streets on Sunday, April 14, 2019, to commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem., which usually occurs a week before Easter celebrations.

Church members were seen in processions in parts of the town, waving palm fronds and singing along major streets.

Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, is the first day of Holy Week – the last week of Lent which starts on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.

Members of the African Church Bethel Cathedral, Aga junction in Ikorodu, led by The Rt. Rev. Akin Ajayi, FCE, the Diocesan, Bishop, Lagos West Missionary Diocese,  in observing the day, paraded Ireshe road to link Ita-Elewa, Pashokun and Aga.

Prince Rotimi Ogunleye, the honorable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Development, who observed the service at the Church, stated that Psalm Sunday is a reminder of the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ and a prelude to Easter celebration.

“Psalm Sunday to me, it’s a reminder of the triumphant entry of the Christ into Jerusalem. It’s usually first observed before the Easter which is a global celebration.

Mr Kunle Bada, another member of the African Church Bethel Church, a pastor in the Church, also corroborated that the celebration is all about grand entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on a Carmel.

He added that palm front which IS attached to the celebration were used when Jesus was entering into Jerusalem.
