The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening industry-academia collaboration and advancing market-driven research, innovation and technological development.
The MoU was signed today Friday, 11 September 2026, at MAN House, Ikeja, Lagos, providing a structured framework for both institutions to jointly pursue strategic initiatives anchored on the Triple Helix model of innovation, which promotes collaboration among academia, industry and government to address real-world challenges.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadiri, mni, described the partnership as an important step towards bridging the trust and collaboration gap between industry and academia. He noted that the initiative is designed to move beyond largely theoretical engagements towards practical research, product development and industry-focused solutions.
According to him, the collaboration will also create pathways for the commercialisation of locally developed engineering prototypes, innovations and fabrications, thereby enhancing their adoption within Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and contributing to local technological capacity.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, described the partnership as a strategic bridge between the “gown and town,” noting that the MoU will enable both institutions to deploy specialised research capabilities, academic expertise and industrial experience towards solving immediate, sector-specific challenges.
He added that the partnership would support the development of industry-aligned curricula while creating a more structured talent pipeline for students seeking Industrial Training (IT) placements and practical industry exposure.
