-As Councillors embark on new Ward-based water projects to commemorate one year in office

The Executive Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has announced plans to rehabilitate two dysfunctional public boreholes located at strategic points within the council area as part of activities commemorating his birthday.
The Imota LCDAChairman disclosed the initiative while addressing residents and stakeholders, who came to felicitate with him on the occasion of his birthday, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the council secretariat.
He explained that the project is aimed at improving access to safe and potable water for communities facing persistent water supply challenges. According to him, “The decision reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects rather than organising extravagant birthday celebrations.”

Hon. Benson noted that several public boreholes within the council have become non-functional over the years due to poor maintenance and technical faults, adding that “Restoring the facilities would ease the burden on residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly, who often travel long distances in search of clean water.”
Speaking on the specific projects, the Chairman said:
”The rehabilitation exercise will cover two strategic boreholes located at Itun-Opopo and Oriokuta communities in Imota LCDA. Engineers and technical personnel have already been directed to assess the affected facilities and commence repair works without delay. We will ensure that only durable materials and quality equipment are used to guarantee their long-term functionality.”

He further disclosed that the four councillors representing the wards in Imota LCDA would also undertake the construction of boreholes in their respective wards. According to him, “The projects will be commissioned as part of activities marking the administration’s first year in office, further demonstrating the council’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents.”
The council boss described access to clean water as a fundamental necessity for healthy living and sustainable community development. He stressed that the intervention aligns with his administration’s broader agenda of improving social infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life of the people.
The event also featured the joint birthday celebration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, and the Council Treasurer, Chief Oluyemi Onifade. It was attended by political office holders, party leaders, council officials, staff members, and other dignitaries from within and outside Imota LCDA.

Speaking at the event, several dignitaries described Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele and Chief Onifade as dedicated public servants whose leadership, humility, and commitment to grassroots development have continued to inspire confidence among residents. They commended their passion for public service and prayed for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, good health, and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
Among the major highlights of the celebration were goodwill messages from stakeholders, special prayers for the celebrants, presentation of birthday cakes, gifts, entertainment, and the official announcement of the borehole rehabilitation initiative, which drew widespread applause from guests.
