The Deputy apex leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Division, Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya, has described the unopposed status and the overwhelming support for Sen. Tokunbo Abiru to fly the party’s ticket again, as rare and affirmation of his performances and quality representation.
Asiwaju Kaoli, who was a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, spoke with reporters at the Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu, the venue of the Ikorodu Division’s phase of the Lagos East Senatorial primary election on Monday.
APC chieftains and members across the six council areas in Ikorodu, turned out in large numbers to support the affirmation of the incumbent Senator Abiru.
“What is happening today is a senatorial primary for the red Chamber’s members. What we are doing here is taking place simultaneously in all the 20 local governments of the state, and five of the local governments are in the East Senatorial District.
“By the performance of the incumbent, by the quality representation, and by the appreciation of what he has contributed to the delivery of democracy, he has been given an automatic ticket to return unopposed and that is rare.
“It is a testament to his performance, good representation and the facilitation he has brought to his constituency”.
Asiwaju Kaoli listed some of Senator Abiru’s projects and programmes that earned him the trust of his constituents across the Lagos East Senatorial.
“In particular in Ikorodu here, and East Senatorial District in general, Senator Tokunbo Abiru has come up with programmes in the area of technology skill and empowerment. He created the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab, one in Ikorodu and other one in Ibeju-Lekki, targeting young people and giving them skill and empowerment for today and for tomorrow, to be able to fit into the technology driving world that is emerging, and that is the greatest gift that you can give a person.
“Apart from that, Senator Abiru has facilitated many project -roads, hospital, and schools in addition. He also do the quarterly food empowerment – stomach infrastructure. So, in all, Senator Abiru has performed very well and we are proud of him, and his performance in the Red Chamber where is the chairman of finance related committee, which is also because of his special skills, and competence in that area. In all, he has performed very well.
The political leader further explained the primary election process, stating that:
“What we are doing here today is an affirmation, which is part of the recognized process in the party’s constitution. In our party’s constitution, we must hold an election if there is no consensus, but, here today (Monday), there is consensus because we have only one candidate.
“So, across the Senatorial District, we are coming together to do an affirmation of his candidature, and once that is passed, it complies with our constitution and he becomes our candidate.
“What we are doing today is just in fulfilment of righteousness, and in accordance with the party’s constitution to affirm his candidature”, he said.
