The Chairman, House Committee on Defense, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has saluted the brave men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces that ensured that the country is enjoying peace and unity with their sacrifices and patriotism.
Rep. Benson, who is representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, honoured the fallen soldiers, in a statement commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day.
”Today, we pause as a grateful nation to honour the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism of the brave men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces – past and present, who have laid down their lives, comfort, and safety in defence of our sovereignty, unity, and peace.

”Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a solemn reminder that the peace we enjoy is watered by the blood, sweat, and tears of our fallen heroes. These gallant sons and daughters of Nigeria, stood firm in the face of danger, choosing duty over fear and service over self. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten”, Hon. Benson said.
The ranking lawmaker also celebrated the serving members of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their professionalism and their efforts in protecting the territorial integrity of the country.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of families of fallen heroes.

”As we lay wreaths and bow our heads in remembrance, we also celebrate the resilience and professionalism of our serving personnel who continue to confront evolving security threats with courage and determination. From counter-terrorism operations to peacekeeping missions, our Armed Forces remain the backbone of our national stability and a symbol of hope for a safer Nigeria.
”On this hallowed day, I particularly acknowledge the families of our fallen heroes – the widows, widowers, children and loved ones who bear the silent burden of loss. Your sacrifice is immeasurable and your courage in the face of grief is a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of Nigeria. We owe you not just words, but sustained care, justice and honour.
Rep. Benson reiterated the commitment of the House of Representatives to support the armed Forces through legislation, funding, provision of equipment and institutional reforms.

“As Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, I reaffirm the commitment of the House of Representatives to strengthening our Armed Forces through robust legislation, adequate funding, improved welfare, modern equipment, and institutional reforms that enhance operational effectiveness and accountability. Our troops deserve nothing less than the full backing of a grateful nation.
”May this day renew our collective resolve to support those who defend us, to uphold the ideals for which our heroes died, and to work tirelessly for a Nigeria where peace, security and prosperity reign.
