Kunle Adelabu

The Chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the Ikorodu Local Government, Qs. Abdulazeez Adekunle Awesu, has said that he intends to win the July 12 Local Government Elections with a clear win.
The LP candidate spoke with THE IMPACT during the flag – off campaign of his party which was a massive roadshow across the six of the seven political wards in Ikorodu Central LG. The campaign train covered Wards except Ward G (Gberigbe/Agura) that was not touched, to reach out to the grassroots people.

Awesu’s campaign train moved from Ogunsanya’s compound which serves as his campaign headquarters to Ota Ona, Alhaji Street enroute Ikorodu garage. From Ikorodu garage down to Sagamu road, and towards Eyita. The train moved inside Eyita to connect the First bank and burst out at Lagos Road from where they connect Lowa- Etunrenren and Solomade gate. From Ayangburen road -Ojogbe/TOS Benson Avenue (Beach road) – Oriwu road- Pashoku inside- Aga inside- Ireshe road- Adaraloye inside, Obun Ale- Ota Ona back to Ogunsanya’s compound.

Awesu was officially presented with the party’s flag by the LP Chairman in Ikorodu LG, Engr. Oloja Abudulazeez, at the LP secretariat beside the Alaka’s Event Centre/Petrol Station at Sabo, Ikorodu, on Saturday before embarking on the massive road show that caused standstill on many of the major roads.
He spoke with THE IMPACT reporters on the forthcoming election during the rally, emphasizing that the Real Deal for him is to win the next week’s Chairmanship elections, irrespective of who his opposition are, and would do so with a clear margin to prove a point.

“There was nothing spectacular about me receiving the flag, because I have gone beyond celebrating getting a flag. I am about the Real Deal and what is this all about? It is winning the election. The flag is good because it symbolizes the party’s acceptance but winning the election is better because that gives the party sustenance and offers the people good governance.
“I am not bothered about the ruling party because I intend to participate and win the election. I intend to win by leading with a clear distance. I do mean it, in the sense that it is when you have close results that can be manipulated. But in a situation where the distance and the victory is clear, there is no way to manipulate such because they would know that the people of Ikorodu, really want me and desired a change.

“So, it would be too clear that this is the desire of the people and nobody would want to manipulate such victory in favour of the ruling party or any opposition except mine that is in a clear lead.
“When I am elected and assume the office as the chairman, my priorities would be Ikorodu and its development and the Ikorodu people really want me, and I want to be the agent of change”, Awesu.
The LP candidate described the road show as an awesome and very encouraging experience that has given him reason that the electorate in Ikorodu desired him as a change agent.

“We actually touched six Wards and the responses were awesome and encouraging. In fact, I got the drive to do more and continue with my campaign to win the election, because many people that did not know me before and just seeing me, were concerned about me and they prayed for me to win.
“They want a change from the status quo; from the current way things are being run and hopefully, I will be the change agent”.
