Council Polls: APC Leaders Charge Candidates, Members To Use Party’s Achievements To Campaign, Solicit For Votes

Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, Senator representing Lagos East, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, State APC Chairman, Prince Abodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor, Lagos and other APC chieftains and members of the National and State Assemblies at the APC Lagos East Senatorial District Mega Campaign Rally held at the Government College, Owutu, Ikorodu, on Saturday.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu and other party leaders have charged candidates and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) on the need to use the achievements of the party at the national, state and council levels to canvass for votes for the July 12 Council elections in the state.

They made the call at the APC Lagos East Senatorial District Mega Campaign Rally held at the Government College, Owutu, Ikorodu, on Saturday.

The event featured the official presentation of chairmanship and vice-chairmanship candidates of the APC across the Lagos East Senatorial District.

Sanwo – Olu was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, called on residents of the Lagos East Senatorial District to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming local government elections.

He said that the APC’s government in the country led by President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo – Olu in the state has shown good governance and reason for the electorate to believe n the party. He urged the candidates and members to use the achievements to campaign.

He urged them to work in unity and cooperation to deliver the state for President Tinubu.

Dr Obafemi Hamzat emphasised that the party has produced a President that has been doing what his predecessors were unable to accomplish, adding that the party also has performing Governor, House of Representatives, State Assembly members and Council Chairmen which are enough to identify and campaign with.

APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, congratulated the candidates and charged them and their supporters to continue to galvanise and reach out to the electorate.

“On behalf of the party, we congratulate all the candidates of our party from the East Senatorial District and your supporters. Our responsibility is to charge you to continue to galvanise and reach out to the electorate.

“We thank and appreciate you. We appreciate your commitment and loyalty to the party. God Almighty will continue to be with you. We are here to present the candidates of our party and charge them to continue to reach out across the East Senatorial District.”

He said that President Bola Tinubu has emphasised the importance of the local government elections and pleaded with aggrieved members to accept the decision of the party and the reconciliatory efforts.

He charged them to work for the party and ensure its victory at the coming elections adding that they would be adequately rewarded.

Ojelabi emphasised that the APC is the only party in the state with presence in the 367 wards across the state and it would be difficult for any party to beat if members work together.

He charged the candidates and party members to use the achievements of President Tinubu, Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, senators and members of the House of Representatives, Lagos State House of Assembly and the outgoing Council Chairmen to their advantage.

Also speaking at the rally, Alhaji Akanni Seriki, a member of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, charged the candidates to focus on service delivery to the people and not relocate outside the country or move to highbrow areas from the place that they are elected.

He too called for unity among party members and called on them to work together for victory in the local government elections.

Former deputy governor and a GAC chieftain, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, said that the council elections would be a foundation for what to come in 2027 and urged massive campaign for large turnout for APC candidates.

He assured the party leaders that Ikorodu would record large voters’ turnout and victory for all the APC candidates.

Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial said that the gathering is celebration of the strength and resilience of APC family in the Lagos East Senatorial District and Lagos State in general.

He emphasised the importance of the local government administration to development in the grassroots and added that the council elections present an opportunity to consolidate the presence of the party across the council areas.

He pledged his supports to all the candidates of the party.

The rally which party candidates used in showcasing their strength was attended by GAC members, national and state legislators, members of the state executive council, and APC leaders across various levels.

There were also representatives of market associations, trade unions, ethnic groups, and party supporters were also present.
