LG Poll 2025: Agunfoye Community Engages APC Chairmanship Candidate, Presents Requests

It was an engaging session when the Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA), visited the Agunfoye community on Sunday in furtherance of his engagement with stakeholders across the council, in the build -up to the July 12 LG elections in Lagos State.

The residents of Agunfoye (Ire 1 and 2) Community Development Associations, met with the Chairmanship candidate and his team, and presented to him several demands that they are expecting him to execute when if he is eventually elected at the poll, while also pledging their support.

At the meeting, the candidate was also formally endorsed after a motion by Hon. Salisu Iyabo, on behalf of the entire people of Agunfoye (Ire 1 & 2).

Dr. Dankuwo Adeleke, a medical practitioner and President, Igbogbo Youth Forum (IYF) and a major stakeholder in Agubfoye, in his welcome remarks, appreciated the candidate for the visit, and reaffirmed the community’s continued support for him.

While emphasizing the importance of Agunfoye community to the candidate’s emergence and reason why their requests matter, he stated that: “Our population is significant, and our votes will influence what we demand from the government”.

The CDA representative, Mr. Oshosanya Olayinka, made a passionate appeal for the rehabilitation of roads, and also pledged massive electoral support.

Other community members also raised further requests and suggestions during the engagement with the chairman.

One of the residents, Mr. Femi, called for the provision of transformers and the rehabilitation of Odofin road to Olumo axis, while Alhaji Abdul Hakeem, Secretary of Ire CDA, suggested quarterly town hall meeting for the chairmanship candidate, when he gets to the office, as a means of feedback.

In her own submission, Mrs. Obisanya requested the establishment of a secondary school in Agunfoye, while Engr. Orenuga, another resident, raised concerns about ticketing affecting motorcyclists.

In response, the APC candidate, Aroyewun expressed gratitude for Agunfoye’s consistent support for his party, stating that, “Your votes have always been massive, and we do not take them for granted”.

He assured the community that there will be constant grading of roads with full responsibility taken by the council, staging of quarterly health outreaches and creating of a database and monthly support for the elderly citizens.

Aroyewun also said that a food marketing board will be introduced through cooperative societies, to offer regular food supplies at subsidised prices, strengthening of security, especially with better welfare packages for the Joint Task Force (JTF).

He also reiterated the military-backed intervention initiated by Hon. Jimi Benson, in collaboration with Igbogbo/Baiyeku and Ijede LCDA, which aimed at addressing kidnapping and insecurity in a part of the two councils.

While responding that secondary education is a state function, Aroyewun added that the council will not hesitate to facilitate its development.

He also announced plans to open a Youth Development Desk at the council, establish a Skill Acquisition Center to train and empower youths and help trainees to access markets.

On the concern raised over ticketing which was claimed to be affecting the cost of fares, Aroyewun assured that measures would be taken to address and reduce the burden.

Lastly, the candidate promised to open a constant communication channel with the CDA and CDC structures.

Daud Oshinlaja, Mr. Aliu, Mr. Gbenga Fatola, Mr. Oke Toyib, Mr. Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, Mr. Adeyemi Ogunlewe, Alh. Kuti Rasheed, Mr Amodu Sulaimon, Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf, Mrs. Ogunsanwo, Mrs. Sidi Aroyewun, Mr. Lukman Adekoya, among many others.
