Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa on Monday, returned as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following Mojisola Meranda’s resignation from the position.
His return as Speaker is coming seven weeks after his removal for gross misconduct.
The Assembly has been in crisis following the removal of Obasa and former Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, by the lawmakers on January 13, 2025, and elected Rt. Hon. Mojisola Meranda as the substantive Speaker.

Following the return of Obasa, Meranda returned to her former position as Deputy Speaker, with other Principal officers also resigning their positions.
Obasa’s re-election followed the nomination by a former Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, who represents Eti-Osa Constituency 1. He subsequently took the oath of office as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa first emerged as a Speaker in June 2015 before his removal in January 2025.
