Football Club Owners Plan To Make Ikorodu Number One Football Destination

The Chairman, Association of Football Club Owners (AFCO), Ikorodu branch, Mr Oluwasegun Ajiroba, popularly called, ‘Ebony’, has revealed the plans of the new association to make Ikorodu the number one football destination in Lagos State.

Ajiroba, who represents the Joy Cometh FC, spoke with THE IMPACT, when he and other members of the association presented the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) and the sponsor of the Gafaar Bolowotan Gold Club, Prince Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, with a recognition award.

The award was presented during the opening match of the 15th edition of the Bolowotan Gold Cup tournament at the Police Ground Playing Ground, Ikorodu.

“We started the association few months back, and we deemed it fit to recognise all those that have spent so much in managing and maintaining clubs over the years, both the ones that are still existing and others that are not”, Ajiroba said.

“We are looking out for them for recognition. This is to let them know that they are part of us and that they deserved to be recognized”.

Speaking on the plans of the association, Ajiroba said that they are working towards ensuring that young players are assisted and provided the opportunities of playing their games at the national and international leagues.

He said that their plans is to make Ikorodu the best football council in the whole of the state.

“We are planning to do things differently. We will be bringing Scouts to our competitions, because our plans is to ensure that we have more of our players playing in the Nigerian leagues and those abroad’, he said.

“We are also planning seminars and through this, football in Ikorodu would experience improvements because when we come together, we are going to be discussing ways to promote the game; benefit the players and engage our youths.

“Our target is to make Ikorodu the number one football destination in Lagos”, Mr Ajiroba said.

The AFCO Chairman also stated that the body is maintaining good and cordial relationship with other football stakeholders in Ikorodu.

“We just concluded a fiesta competition that ended Saturday, with award presentations. The IDFA Chairman is part of us and we have cordial relationship with our referees in Ikorodu”.
