2023 World Teachers’ Day: Oriwu College Principal, Akeem Bello, Others Win Presidential Prizes

Principal, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Mr Akeem Oladimeji Bello, has emerged the Overall Best Administrator (Public) School in Nigeria, receiving a brand new gold colour space car as the winning prize.

Bello, received the Presidential honour during the 2023 World Teacher’s Day Celebration held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, on Thursday.

He dedicated the laudable feat to God, and the Lagos State Government for providing an enabling environment that assisted him to excel.

Adeyemi Omolade Elizabeth, a primary teacher with SUBEB Model Nursery and Primary School, Iludofin, Ekiti State, was honoured as the best Public School teacher in Nigeria, with a brand new car as his prize, while Oraekwu Obiageli Ruth, from Carol Standard Convent School, Ichi, Anambra State, emerged the Best Teacher (private school category), and was also rewarded with a brand new car.

Imade College, Owo, Ondo State, emerged the Best Public school in Nigeria. The school was also rewarded with a brand new car, while St. Paul’s Academy, Jos, Plateau State, emerged best private school in Nigeria, and was rewarded with a brand new school bus among others.

Reacting to the award on Facebook handle, Bello, who assumed office as the Principal of the premier college in Ikorodu Division, in September 2020, also parents, students and staff of his school, for their suppport.

“October 5th, every year is World Teachers’ Day. This year’s celebration was held today at the Eagle’s Square, Abuja, and I was honoured as the Overall Best Administrator in Nigeria’s Public School”, Mr Bello said.

“I am grateful to God, the Lagos State Government, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education – Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the TG/PS Education District II – Mrs. Anike Adekanye (The Game Changer), for providing an enabling environment for teaching and learning in Lagos State.

“I also want to appreciate all the students, parents of Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, and my team (Team Oriwu)”, he said.

An administrator with over 30 years experience in the public secondary school sector, Education District II of Lagos State, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, has achieved great feats under the leadership of Mr Akeem Bello, some of which are:

Winner of the 2023 Cancer Awareness Competition organized by Atinuke Cancer Foundation, for secondary schools in Lagos State and Ogun State.

First Runner-up and Second runner-up positions in the 2023 World Environment Day Youth Video Competition on Solutions To Plastic Pollution.

Top 15 Public Secondary Schools in Lagos by InfoGuideNigeria.

First runner-up in the 2022 World Science Day Science Project Competition, titled Carbon Foot Print. Organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology.

Award of Excellence to Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, by the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (2022).

Excellent Performance in 2022 WAEC with 100% in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
