Concerned Ikorodu North Citizens Forum has written the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Division, over what they termed perpetual marginalization of the council area.

The concerned residents of the Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, are protesting the failure of the leadership in considering the political zone for state appointments, since its inception.

In a statement issued by the concerned group and sent to THE IMPACT, they said that they are compelled to write because of the ongoing nomination exercise for the cabinet positions into the second term administration of Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo – Olu.

THE IMPACT had reported a few days back that the apex leadership in the division at the weekend met for two days to decide on the letter sent to them by the Governor, for the nomination of three persons from Ikorodu for consideration into his next cabinet.

It was also reported that Ms. Abisola Olusanya, former Commissioner for Agriculture and Dr Frederick Oladeine, former Commissioner for Transportation were selected based on the request of the Governor and their performances. The third nominee whose name was reportedly sent with the duo, is Dr Nurudeen Agbaje, a former aspirant for the Ikorodu Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The aggrieved residents appealed to the leadership of the party led by the former Deputy Governor of the State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, to consider people from Ikorodu North LCDA, for political appointments in this dispensation.

“We are compelled to write this letter following the ongoing nomination exercise for the cabinet positions in the state. It has been noted with dismay that nobody, since the inception of this Council, has ever been appointed as Commissioner, Special Adviser, Head of Parastatal, Commission member, to mention but a few”, the protest letter stated.

“We are respectfully calling on your leadership to revisit our plight by considering any of our illustrious sons or daughters from lkorodu North, for any top position in this new dispensation of our performing Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu”, they appealed.

“We would like to conclude with a particular reference to one of the declarations made by President Bola Tinubu in his recent national broadcast, “We shall be faithful to truth, faithful to equity and faithful to justice. We shall exercise our mandate to govern with fairness, respect for the rule of law, and commitment to always uphold the dignity of all our people”. It is on this basis we are calling your leadership to replicate this profound philosophy by releasing the spirit of this council and that of its helpless inhabitants from the grip of agelong political marginalisation and slavery.

“Democracy is said to be meaningful, impactful and prosperous when all the players, regardless of the lines of divide, are made to nurture it, and proclaim its benefits for the sanctity of its ideals and humanity at large.

“Thank you in anticipation of prompt and genuine consideration to the above request”, they added.
