There is no doubt that Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, the son of the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Chieftain of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), will be stepping into a big shoe left by the immediate past representative of the Ikorodu Constituency I, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, therefore, in dire need of advice and support.

One of such advice has come from one of his constituents and a lecturer, Mr Temidayo Hassan.

Ogunleye, who will be inaugurated into the 10th Assembly today with 39 others, is taking over from Agunbiade who spent four terms of 16 straight years in the State Assembly.

Mr Temidayo, while congratulating the new lawmaker, specifically charged him on the need to establish constant connection with his constituents through town hall meetings and other public events.

He also charged him on developing a strong work ethic and prioritizing lawmaking duty.

“Dear Honourable Gbolahan Ogunleye, I congratulate you on your Swearing-in ceremony as a Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. I pray for your success”, Hassan said.

“Meanwhile, I urge you to take note of the followings:

“Connect with constituents by attending community events, hosting town hall meetings and using social media platforms to gather feedback and address concerns. By staying connected, you can better understand the needs and aspirations of the people of Ikorodu Constituency 1”, he urged Hon. Ogunleye.

“Ensure you prioritize legislative responsibilities and commit to a strong work ethic. Collaborate with your colleagues to build consensus and advance meaningful legislation”.

The Ikorodu Constituency I representative is also advised to practice an open – door policy as the best possible way to know and understand the yearnings of his constituents.

“Be responsive and accessible. Maintain an open-door policy, promptly respond to messages, and provide clear channels of communication. Be approachable”, he said.

While also urging that Hon. Ogunleye should seek assistance from experts and his predecessor among others, Hassan also emphasized the need for collaboration across board if he is to succeed in his representation.

“Consult with experts and stakeholders in relevant fields to gather diverse perspectives on complex issues. Engaging with subject-matter experts, researchers and organizations can help you make well-informed decisions and develop effective policies. Do not hesitate to consult your predecessor as well”, he said.

“Engage in continuous learning. Please, don’t wait till the house sponsors you, attend conferences, workshops, and seminars on your own to stay updated on emerging trends, best practices, and innovative solutions.

“Collaborate across party lines and hold regular accountability check-ins”, he charged.

“All eyes on you”, Hassan added.
