A concerned Lagosian, Mr Oluwakemi ‘Bashexy’ Hassan, has called for the need to create Mechanic Workshops at various Lagos Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS) centres.

Hassan, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Suave Records and senior legislative aide to Hon. Waji Raji, Member, House of Representatives, representing Epe Federal Constituency, tagged the idea, ‘Lagos Fix It’.

In a statement sent to THE IMAPCT, he said that the initiative would create employment opportunities for Lagosians and increase the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“Lagos State Government did a very wonderful job with the introduction of the Lagos Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS) in collaboration with Vehicle Inspection Unit.

“The main function is to ensure the safety of the motoring public and private vehicles are tested for the purpose of ascertaining their worthiness on roads. But some certain things still needed to be look into.

“They need to create Mechanic workshop in all the centres. This can birth a new unit, ‘Lagos Fix lt’”, he said.

“To enable turnaround time…people won’t have to keep going back and forth to fix some minor things detected during the course of the inspection”.

Hassan also enjoined government to ensure that the policy is enforced on public transport drivers which it is mainly meant for.

“It will also serves as Employment opportunity, increase revenue generation as well as ensures safety.

“They should also try as much as possible to ensure that public transport drivers comply because majority of them don’t. And they ought to be the major target as against private car owners”, he said.

LACVIS was established in 2016, to introduce vehicle testing technologies and undertake computerized vehicle inspection services in Lagos State.

It is regulated by the Lagos State Ministry of Transport to provide technical and operational infrastructure to inspect vehicles according to the statutory provisions of the law and work with VIO, FRSC, Nigeria Police, Road Traffic Unions, Electronics and Print Media and the General Public.
