A month after the demolition exercise to clear way for the redevelopment of the Igbogbo/Bayeku Road in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Ikorodu Division, Southwest, Nigeria, real construction work has started on Thursday (yesterday).

The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), cordoned off the road yesterday from the Yewa junction to prevent any disturbance while construction work is going on.

The remodeling of the road, which also included the Awolowo Way and Odofin Road, is being handled by the LSPWC.

Mr Babajide Sanwo – Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, had, in 2021 during the commissioning of the ultra – modern Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA Secretariat, assured residents of the council that the road which has caused untold hardship, would be rehabilitated.

A big project signpost announcing the readiness of the government to move to site was erected at the junction of Odofin Street in June this year.

Our reporter visited the site today and saw that excavation for the commencement of drainage construction has started, while motorists were being passed through an opening.

It was gathered that the LSPWC is planning to completely cordone off the road to prevent vehicular movement around the area when the construction work is fully in operation.
However, there are concerns from motorists and other road users that no alternative road has been made available for them.

Some of the residents and other road users said that government ought to have issue notice on the closure of the road, while they also expressed fears that the closure will bring untoward hardship if alternative road is not created.
