Former General Secretary, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee and a popular politician in Igbogbo, Comrade Francis Mani Shonubi, popularly called ‘Senator’ and ‘Mani Kongo’, has commended the outgoing leadership of the umbrella body of youths in Igbogbo, the Igbogbo Youths Coalition (IYC), on the way they handled the recently concluded election of new executives of the group.

Shonubi, now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a former Lagos East Senatorial candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 General Elections.

He spoke with THE IMPACT on the IYC election that produced Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa as the President – elect and other members of the executives.

Many believed that the election which was held earlier this month and successfully conducted, would be unresolved due to various interests that were involved.

“For me, I really appreciate and salute the maturity with which the IYC Election was conducted and which has ushered in new Executive to be led by Comrade Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa”, he said.

“I strongly believe they will perform and I am ready to support them to achieve the purpose for which we established the body.

“Youths are the bedrock of any society and we need to explore the potentials in our youths to build a healthy society and by extension, our great nation”, he said.

The grassroots politician also chargeed that the new executives should ensure that IYC is neutral and focuses on educational development in Igbogbo.

‘The incoming excos should be neutral in active politics and focus on the liberation of education, via public awareness, in the public and private schools”, he said.

“They should collaborate with relevant youth agencies to bring tangible activities to the community”.

While commending the outgoing executives led by Mr Gbenga Odunniyi, for laying good foundation, Shonubi also wished the incoming excos successful tenure.

“The outgoing excos did well and they laid the necessary foundation for the incoming leadership and they should be there as advisory wing or as Ex-Officio as it is being popular called, to give advice where necessary for the smooth running of the body”, he said.

“I wish Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa led administration a fruitful tenure as they move the association to the next level. We are better together”.
