The newly elected executive members of the Igbogbo Youth Coalition (IYC) have been charged to continue to work towards further enhancement of the ideals on which the group was formed which is to protect the interests of youths in the community.

Mr Olugbenga Odunniyi, the outgoing President of IYC, gave the charge while congratulating the new officers on their victory at the Congress election which was held at the Oba Oaltunji Fatola Pavilion located within the Adeboruwa palace, Igbogbo, on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

The outgoing President’s charge was included in a statement titled, “ Toast To A New Era’, released on Sunday (today).

He commended members of the electoral committee and general members of the IYC for the success of the congress election.

“Interestingly, prior to the election outcome on Saturday, 6th August, 2022, members of the Coalition were fervently waiting for the next set of people that would steer the affairs of this noble association. Fortunately for us, the path to the same destination- youthful cohesion to attain a sane society will be entrusted to another set of credible members of our Coalition in few weeks’ time”, Odunniyi said.

“Progressively, members of this noble Coalition elected new set of executives on the basis of total trust, respect, and most significantly; integrity. All thanks to the IYC Independent Electoral Committee for a job well done and the entire members of the association for their unprecedented maximum cooperation before, during, and after the election”.

While congratulating the new executives, Odunniyi also charged them to strive towards making positive contributions.

“While I join the distinguished members of the Coalition to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the newly elected executives of our prestigious IYC, my prayer is God guidance for the incoming leadership so that they will be able to make unprecedented positive contributions to Igbogbo, and have a successful administration”, he said.

“However, I charge the newly elected executives to think out of the box, work assiduously together, and respect members’ views and opinions on all matters of the Coalition in the overall interest of the group”.

Odunniyi also described aspirants that withdrew their interests which allowed for consensus elections, as true community builders, adding that the election was a win – win situation for all.

“Nevertheless, there are some critical sacrifices every meaningful human will have to make in the best interest of peaceful coexistence and for the progress of the society. A new set of exceptional humans have been discovered in our town; those that gave up their civil right and withdrew their ambitions to serve in the coming administration. To me, they are the real community builders; they have my complete respect any day, anytime. Behold, my joy is ineffable”, he said.

“It is worthy of note that IYC is founded on a sober acknowledgement of the fact that our interests must be protected at all levels while striving for community development; on a shared understanding that the IYC is not a zero-sum game where one person must lose so that another can win. The reverse is true: it’s a win for all. The fundamental basis for this is the Community method. It is not a technocratic concept, but the principle at the heart of everything IYC stands for”.

He, therefore, charged the new officers to work with various interest groups in achieving cooperation and overall developments of Igbogbo.

“It is, therefore, sacrosanct that the incoming executive council works with all groups; traditional institutions, government at all levels, clubs, bases, ‘adugbos’ (streets) etc, for the sole goals of IYC; togetherness and overall development of our society”, Odunniyi appealed.

“Dear esteemed members, there is no better time for us to restrategise collectively to achieve that flourishing Igbogbo we all crave to have, than now.

“In short, let’s get it done. This is the time to deliver, this is the place to commit. And yes, there are still many obstacles, but it is up to us to overcome them, and it is do-able.

“I base my confidence on the plethora of technocrats and highly spirited people God has bestowed us with and I appreciate the trust and overwhelming support from the stakeholders, the outgoing executives and the entire members of IYC, which enabled me rendered my services sincerely as the president of the group”.

He also called for necessary cooperation and support from members of the Coalition in ensuring that the incoming executives are accorded befitting inauguration in October.

“On this premise, it is highly expedient that we come together in the month of October this year to officially welcome our new executives and frolic together to depict a stronger Coalition for a brighter and rewarding Igbogbo future.

“We are getting it better because we are better together”, he added.
