IDPIL /GTE Bursary Award: 11

The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited/GTE (IDPIL/GTE), today, took a further step in the disbursement of its N20million Scholarship/Bursary awards to students of Ikorodu Division with the commencement of screening exercise for candidates for the Bursary I category of the scholarship.

A total of 112 students attended the screening which was held at the Leo Regal Event Hall, Olu – Odo in Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

A total of 100 successful applicants would be selected for the Bursary I.

The screening panel, led by the Executive Secretary of the IDPIL /GTE, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, also consisted of Hon. (Chief) Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, the Chairman, Scholarship & Award Committee and Mr Taiwo Hassan Awolaru, Secretary of the committee.

(Chief) Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, the Chairman, Scholarship & Award Committee and a staff of the group during the screening on Wednesday.

Other members of the screening committee present were Col. Titilayo Onafowokan and Alhaja Bolanle Alaka.

The applicants that appeared before the panel were asked questions about their names, indigenship, family, state or origin, names of monarchs in Ikorodu division or in their respective areas, names of council chairmen, parents, schools, their course of study, names of community media houses in Ikorodu, governor of their states and executives of the IDPIL among others to test their knowledge of their areas.

They were also asked about what they would do with the bursary sum if allocated to them.

IDPIL/GTE Bursary award is divided into two; Bursary 1 is designed for both indigenes and residents alike.

Application for the Bursary 1 is based on Academic performance and it is open to indigenes and residents. Students applying for this scheme must be of good academic standing, not less than Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 or Second class Upper Division for Universities and Upper Credit for Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education, respectively.

Chief (Mrs) Adebimpe Akinsola, speaking with THE IMPACT at the end of the screening exercise, commended the applicants on their performances.

“We are very happy and so delighted that the students did very well. They did their best despite the challenges being faced by the tertiary institutions in the country and the challenges that we are faced with in Nigeria”, she said.

“They were able to answer our questions to the best of their knowledge and abilities. We appreciate them. They all came on time and we appreciate that they are time conscious and we are happy for the turnout today”, she added.

During the interview, Otunba Abiru was displeased with appearances of some of the students and cautioned them against dressing shabbily to interview.

He charged them to always dress well and look good at all times if they are to command respect.

Some of the candidates that appeared for the interview commended the bursary initiative and its process.

It would be the turn of the applicants for the Bursary 2 on Thursday, August 18, 2022.

THE IMPACT had reported about two weeks ago that over 400 students applied for the IDPIL/GTE Scholarship and Bursary awards.
