The Chairman, Community Development Community (CDC), Zone 2, Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr Gbadamosi Adewale Fatai, has called for more government attention in Ikorodu in terms of physical developments to address the challenges of rapid increase in population in the Division which he said is adversely affecting the existing infrastructures in the division.

The community leader who is also the Chief Administrator, The People’s Forum (TPF), one of the major WhatsApp platforms related to Ikorodu Division, said that government attention is imperative because Ikorodu is the only Division, among the five divisions that came together to form Lagos State, that is still remaining a Local Government, a situation he said is affecting its finances.

Ikorodu Local Government is one of the 20 Local Government Areas out of which five LCDAs – Ikorodu West, Ikorodu North, Igbogbo/Bayeku, Ijede and Imota LCDAs, were created with the monthly federal allocations accruing to it being shared amongst them.

Mr Gbadamosi made the appeal while speaking with THE IMPACT during the 2022 Ileya celebrations while commenting on the floods that is ravaging many parts of the Division.

“There is need for improved government attention in Ikorodu in terms of physical infrastructural projects due to the rapid development of Ikorodu division and the population surge with the development of new towns and communities springing up in many lkorodu suburbs on a daily basis”, he said.

“As a matter of fact, Ikorodu should be accorded far better attention being the only division that has largely remained a single local government since creation, thereby, being shortchanged in the area of revenue allocation to the six local government and LCDAs and also in the area of allocation of projects while illustrious sons and daughters of the division are been largely overlooked in terms of political appointments”.

He charged leaders in Ikorodu to come together and speak in unity in the interest of the division.

“It’s high time both political and traditional leadership in lkorodu Division close ranks and collaborate to speak in one voice to demand for better recognition for lkorodu division in all these areas highlighted above. If this is done, then we can sit back to experience better life in terms of physical development, political development and also economic development for lkorodu division, going forward”, he said.
