Residents and road users in lkorodu have raised concerns over the ongoing construction on Itamaga – Ijede road awarded to the Arab Contractors by the Lagos State Government.

They are calling on the government, especially the Ministry of Works & Infrastructures, to visit the site of the project for likely adjustment, particularly as it concerns the construction of drainages and openings for access to communities along the road.

The concerned residents, who made their concerns known on the social media, charged that necessary government officials should endeavor to visit the site while work is still ongoing before needed adjustments become impossible after completion of the road.

Prince Deji Osho, a social media activist and public analyst, raised his concern on his Facebook wall on Monday with the title, ‘Itamaga/Ijede road construction’.

Osho’s post has, however, generated a lot of responses from residents who felt that he spoken their minds.

He posted pictures of the flooded sections of the road to show imminent threat to the ongoing construction if necessary corrections are not made.

“This is Ladegboye junction on Itamaga/Ijede road where heavy construction is currently onngoing”, he said while showing photographs.

“I’m calling on the concerned authority to visit the road for likely correction in order to avert early damages to the road”, he pleaded.

“There are a lot of errors on in the construction works. There are no openings within the roads to connect one’s to his or her desired destination.

“This picture shows the condition of the  Ladegboye junction during today’s rainfall. There’s no drainage where the rain water can be channeled. There’s an urgent need to revisit this particular area because of the stagnant water on that portion of the road due to rainfall”, he added.

“I’m calling on the concerned authority to swiftly move to correct the errors before it’s too late”, Osho emphasized.

Another resident, Orenuga Tunde, while commending Osho for raising the concern, also called for corrections.

“Good observations my brother.

“So many corrections needed to be done on that road before completion. The earlier, the better”, he said.

Oba Uztas Abdulateef Odumeru, in his own reaction, said:

“The way they are rushing the work, (it’s) like ‘wipe won n le won ni……’ (they are being rushed to complete the job). A lot (of) mistake on this road…It’s better to correct them now before is too late”.

Another resident, Salami Saheed, said:

“I think they need to call them (the contractor)to order, otherwise the road will not last”.

In his own reaction, Adebanjo Taofeek also commended Osho for raising his voice over his concerns on the ongoing road project.

“Honestly, you’re on point. The construction work needs quick intervention from the state government. Otherwise, it may cause another big problem. The government engineer needs to come for inspection. Thanks my honourable”.

Ganiyu Kazeem, another resident, also called the government’s attention to Gbaga junction along the Itamaga – Ijede road.

“Not only Ladegboye, Gbaga entrance too needs attention”.

In his reaction, Mudathr Olakunle Odesanya Hunters, who also expressed his concerns over the situation at Gbaga junction, described the spot as the worst affected part of the road.

“Not only Ladegboye junction, if you go to Gbaga junction, the situation there is worse. Anytime there is heavy rain, that place turns to lagoon for the next seven days”, he said.
