Prof. Wahab Emerges Deputy VC LASU

Prof. Wahab Elias Olukorede, emerged as the Deputy vice Chancellor (Academics), LASU on Wednesday.

Prof. Wahab Elias Olukorede, an illustrious Ikorodu son, has been elected as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) of the Lagos State University by the Senate of the institution.

According to a release by the institution’s Centre for lnformation, Press and Public Relations (LASU CIPPR), the election, which took place on Wednesday, 26th August, 2020, saw Prof. Wahab defeated the other candidate for the position, Prof. Ayodeji Abari, by 88 to 43 votes to emerge winner.

Prof. Wahab, a Professor of Sociology and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, will succeed another illustrious son of Ikorodu, Prof. Olumuyiwa Noah whose tenure ended on Monday, 24th August, 2020, after serving for 2 consecutive terms of 2 years each.

The election of the new DVC (Academics) is to be ratified by the Governing Council of the University.

Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan, a senior lecturer with the Political Science Department and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative Movement (IDYIM), speaking with THE IMPACT on the election of Dr Wahab, described him as a towering scholar who represents many things to humanity.

“Prof Elias Wahab is a towering and iconic scholar who represents the possibilities of knowledge, the gains of rigour and the endurance of human spirit”, he said in a chat with THE IMPACT.

“He is a remarkable institution builder; a knowledge worker and organic intellectual whose leadership and mentorship to many generations of African scholars including myself has been extraordinary.

“His contribution to the faculty of social sciences as Dean is sterling and remarkable. A critical element for Prof Wahab was always about enhancing the career of younger generations and facilitating the careers of his peers”.

Dr Abatan said that with vast experience and network, the new DVC will add to scholarship development.

“Given his network and connection to town and gown, I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that his tenure as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of LASU will witness remarkable growth in scholarship and development.
