More Youths Benefit From Lagos Kitchen lnitiative

More youths and areas in Ikorodu today, Wednesday, April 22, benefited from the Lagos Food Kitchen programme which kicked off in the community on Tuesday (yesterday).

While continuing with set of motor parks and areas reached yesterday, members of the committee incharge of the food programme in Ikorodu division also reached out to new set of motor parks across the division to enable more vulnerable youths benefited from the one – meal – a –day programme of the Lagos State Government which is part of the interventions designed to cushion the effects of the ongoing lockdown.

Youths in motor garages/parks in Odogunyan, Ijede, Imota, Agbede and Ojubode in lkorodu were among those that benefitted from the cooked rice and African dish (Eba and Egusi soup) that were served today.

According to the committee, more than 2,000 residents were fed today while transporters and other youths in the areas visited embraced the intervention.

Our reporter’s camera captured the Lagos Food Kitchen Programme at the Ikorodu garage while the were getting set to serve ‘garage’ boys today.

While asking government to sustain the daily food programme, leadership and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ikorodu division also urged the government to improve on the daily allocations of the food packs to the division in view of their acceptance and cooperation with the committee in charge of the food programme.

Speaking with the coordinators of the Ikorodu phase of the Lagos Food Kitchen Programme on the sustenance of the scheme, they stated that it’s only the government that can determine how long it would run.

They, however, stated that the state government is committed to the feeding of vulnerable people in the state during the duration of the COVID – 19 lockdown.
