Be Ready For Saner, Responsible, Responsive Practices On Nigeria Airwaves – Adesemoye, Broadcast Educator

Mr Steven Adesemoye, a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, has stated that broadcasting profession will not be the same again in Nigeria after the just concluded stakeholders’ meeting by broadcast professionals .

Adesemoye, who represented the Lagos State Polytechnic at the 6th Stakeholders’ Meeting to address the challenges of Campus, Community Broadcasting and the launch of the 6th edition of Nigeria Broadcasting Code,  made this assurance while speaking online with THE IMPACT from the venue of the meeting organized by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

He also stated that LASPOTECH FM will be on air soon.

The meeting, which was an educative forum,  took place at Bristol Palace, Tarauni, Kano State between Wednesday, 3rd and Thursday, 4th July, 2019.

Speaking with THE IMPACT, Mr Adesemoye, who represented LASPOTECH FM as Broadcast Educator, stated that:

“Be ready for saner, responsible and responsive practices on the airwaves across the country”.

He said that the review of the broadcasting code is done once in five years, adding that Prof. Umar Pate reviewed the 6th edition of the code.

Speaking on his experience at the meeting, the Broadcast Educator stated:

“Listening and interacting with these grandpas of communication studies (Profs. Ralph Akinfeleye, Umar Pate, Lai Oso, Akin Akinbulu,  & Ayobami Ojebode) made the whole exercise beautiful, bountiful and rewarding for me.

When asked about LASPOTECH FM, the educator stated that plans are in top gears by the institution to launch it soon.

“The process is a marathon, not a sprint. But we are on top of it”, Adesemoye stated.

“The Studio is completed and already handed over to LASPOTECH by Lagos State government.

“We have also completed training for Studio Engineers and Broadcasters”.

He added that the institution is processing the NBC’s conditions for inspection.

“Application for NBC’s inspection has already been acknowledged  by NBC and the conditions for NBC’s inspection are under processing by the Polytechnic”.

Adesemoye also informed THE IMPACT that the Studio Engineers are currently carrying out test at the station on LASPOTECH main campus in Ikorodu.

“The Studio Engineers and Broadcasters  are on ground carrying out earthing Test for studio and transmitter which should be ready next week”.

On the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) certification of radio mast, the lecturer cum film producer and script writer, stated that:

“The application for NCAA certification of radio mast is currently receiving attention by the authority.

“The required statutory payment to NCAA is being processed by LASPOTECH. Resultant challenges on Remita are also being resolved with NCAA by LASPOTECH. We hope to get over that next week”.

He assured the residents of Ikorodu division that LASPOTECH radio will be on air soon for test transmission.

“We are good to start test transmission.

“No challenges again. Just the normal procedure that we must go through”.

When pressed further on when the test transmission would commence, Adesemoye stated:

“I am not in charge, so, I may not be able to put a time to it, but obviously, it is going to come on air before December”.
