As schools reopened across Lagos State for a new academic session, Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has reached out to indigents pupils in five public primary schools with customised school bags as part of his back-to-school support initiative.
The intervention, tagged “Back-to-School Gifts,” was carried out on Tuesday, September 15, across selected schools in Ikorodu West LCDA and Imota LCDA, with the beneficiary schools chosen from communities where many families face difficult economic circumstances.
The beneficiary schools are C & S Primary Schools I and II and Itowolo Primary School in Ikorodu West LCDA, as well as Abejoye Primary School, Igbokuta, and UNA Primary School, Oke-Agbo, in Imota LCDA.
The choice of schools was based on need, with the Jimi Benson iCare education team considering the socio-economic realities of the communities served by each school.
Speaking during the distribution in Ikorodu West, the Education Secretary of Ikorodu Local Government Education Authority, Alhaji Taiwo Abiodun Odumbo, who represented Rep. Benson alongside the Secretary to Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Rukayat Ajibike Salau, said the intervention was deliberately directed to areas where families often have to make difficult choices in meeting their children’s educational needs.
He explained that the team paid attention not only to the schools themselves but also to the communities around them, particularly areas inhabited by families working hard to survive while struggling to keep their children in school.
According to him, the school bags were therefore provided as a practical form of assistance at a time when families are facing the immediate expenses associated with the commencement of a new academic session.
At Imota LCDA, the lawmaker was represented by the Vice Chairman of the council, Princess Abisoye Oredoyin, who described the gesture as timely and meaningful, particularly for families within the benefiting communities.
Oredoyin noted that the beginning of a school term comes with a number of expenses for parents and guardians, including transportation, books, uniforms and other essential materials.
She said the customised bags would provide immediate support to the beneficiaries while also giving the pupils a positive start to the new school year.
The Vice Chairman commended Rep. Benson for identifying interventions that respond to specific needs within the constituency, particularly initiatives that directly touch the lives of children and young people.
The back-to-school initiative adds to Rep. Benson’s continuing involvement in educational development within Ikorodu Federal Constituency. His interventions in the sector have included support for public schools, educational infrastructure and programmes designed to expand opportunities for pupils and young people.
The intervention underscores Benson’s approach to constituency representation in which support for education extends to both the broader development of schools and the immediate needs of pupils.
