Chairman of the House of Representatives Defence Committee, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has stressed the importance of strategic thinking and intellectual engagement as key to solving myriad of problems confronting Nigeria as a country.
Rep. Benson urged gradates of National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, for Course 34 (2025/2026 Session), to put into practice knowledge and strategic perspective in improving the country’s security and economic situation by contributing positively to innovative policy formulation and implementation.
The three -term lawmaker, who was among the dignitaries at the 34th Graduation Lecture of the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, for Course 34 (2025/2026 Session), themed, “Harnessing Industrial Capacity for Inclusive Growth and Regional Stability in Africa” and delivered by the former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, gave his perspective in a statement on his social media handles on Tuesday.
“The theme is timely. Africa’s security challenges are tied to economic resilience, technology, industrial capacity, human capital and strong institutions. Industrial capacity is therefore a strategic imperative for national security and regional stability.”
“As Chairman, House Committee on Defence, I commend the NDC for its strategic thinking, professional training and intellectual engagement, which continue to prepare leaders for Nigeria’s complex security environment.
“I congratulate the Commandant, faculty, staff and Course 34 graduands on completing this rigorous programme and preparing for greater responsibilities across the Armed Forces, security agencies, MDAs and other areas of national and international service.
The Chairman of House of Reps Defence Committee stressing the linkage between national security and economic development, urged graduates to put the strategic lessons, contacts and experience that they have acquired into good use for the country.
“I urge the graduands to apply their knowledge, strategic insight, networks and experience to strengthen national security, improve policymaking, promote innovation and build a safer, more prosperous Nigeria.”
“We must deepen the link between security and economic development. A secure nation promotes investment and productivity, while a strong economy, indigenous industrial capacity and opportunities for our young people provide a foundation for sustainable peace and stability.
“I commend the NDC’s contribution to strategic education and capacity development within our defence and security architecture. It must continue expanding its intellectual frontiers and strengthening military and civilian leaders to confront emerging security challenges.
Rep. Benson further charged members of Course 34: ‘Congratulations, Course 34. Your nation expects much from you. Serve with knowledge, courage, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the peace, security and prosperity of Nigeria and Africa.”
