Sen. Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe, former Minister of Works and Deputy Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Oriwu College Old Students’ Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) and Alhaji Musbau M. Bolarinwa, a chieftain of the association have commended the progress at the ongoing construction of a storey -building laboratory at the Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu.
When completed, the facility which is a federal government project and facilitated by Mrs Asisat Alausa, wife of the Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa and a member of the 1988/89 set in the school will accommodate Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture Laboratories and Robotic Laboratories. Also, e -library, restrooms and other facilities, with water project.
OCOSAN National Secretary, Mr Lateef Sholanke, who also accompanied the team on inspection tour of the facility on behalf of the Alumni association thanked the initiator and the federal government for the project, which is expected to be completed and delivered later in the year.
Sen. Ogunlewe speaking with our reporter during the tour said that the project will add value to the premier college in Ikorodu Division area of Lagos State and one of the best schools in Nigeria.
“I want to thank the facilitator of this project for the benevolence and kindness to the college. We pray that by the grace of God, we will all be alive when this place is commissioned. It is going to add a lot of value to the teaching staff and the students.”
“The work is going on fine. It is about 40% completed and once they are able to put on the roof, the project will be about 65% completed. Then we will move on to furnishing the laboratories. It is going to be a very appropriate project for the school.”
Alhaji Bolarinwa, also speaking explained that the old bungalow that hosted the Chemistry and other laboratories was demolished for the new structure and it will host more facilities when completed.
He stated that necessary conduit pipes, water system and other things have been fixed, adding that necessary equipment and facilities for the laboratories have been supplied for the building.
“By the time it is completed, it will be the best laboratory in any school in Lagos State. Everybody will be coming here to learn from our laboratories.
It will contain all the laboratories required for senior secondary school education. If you go through the architectural drawings, you will see all the laboratories in detail, including an Agricultural Science Laboratory, which many schools do not even have,” he explained.
Alhaji Bolarinwa further added, “All the equipment needed for the laboratories has already been imported. They are already here in containers. As soon as the building is completed, we will install them in their proper places.”
Mr Sholanke who also was full of appreciation to the facilitator of the project, also emphasised its importance to educational development of the staff and students.
“I want to appreciate the facilitator of this project for deeming it fit to give us such a laudable and impactful project in Oriwu College Ikorodu. It will add great value to our dear school.”
“It is going to benefit both the staff, current students and those who will attend the school in the future.”
