The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, and residents of the council have pleaded with the Lagos State Government on the need to complete the abandoned ferry terminal at Oju -Agemo community in Imota.
According to Hon. Benson Ayodele, the ferry jetty was started 18 years ago and has been abandoned since then.
The council boss made the appeal to the state government through the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA) and the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture & Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Ruth Olusanya, during the foundation laying ceremony of an Ultra -Modern Fish Processing and Preservation Centre, Madan, Ijede LCDA at the weekend.
“There is a ferry terminal that has been abandoned for the past 18 years and it needs to be completed. Imota also needs this to improve water transportation from the council area to other parts of Lagos.
“This is important, because it will add colour to Ikorodu Constituency II and I know that our father Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu before completing a year in his second term, the three LCDAs in Ikorodu Constituency II and other parts of the state will become full -fledged local government.”
Speaking with THE IMPACT, the council boss emphasised that the project when completed would improve the socio -economic lives in Oju -Agemo community and Imota LCDA as a whole.
“We need the state government to intervene and complete this project to further expand the government’s investment on our waterways.”
“The project will also connect our people to other parts of the state and improve their socio -economic lives.”
Chief Sadiq Sanni Odeyemi, Baale Oko -Ito, speaking with THE IMPACT also pleaded for the government intervention to complete the abandoned ferry and make it functional.
“The Chairman was right about the abandoned project. It has been there for over a decade. They constructed some structure like a bridge and a partial part of the ferry only to abandon it.
“The state government can involve private investors to complete the ferry and make it functional to serve Imota people because we cannot afford to be cut away from the rest of the state with the government enhancing water transportation.
“Imota people also deserve to have a functional ferry terminal to move its people effectively and efficiently and also improve the social and economic lives of the people.”
The community leader also pleaded with the state government to intervene in constructing the Beach Road that led to the abandoned ferry.
Comrade Oriyomi Adebogun, Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), who also confirmed that the project has been abandoned for many years, added that if completed and made functional, the abandoned ferry terminal project will link Imota people to Ajah, Badore, Victoria Island and Lagos Island easily.
He is also of the view that such ferry terminal would improve the social and economic lives in Imota LCDA.
