The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has dislodged traders displaying their goods on the drainage system and warned that the council will not tolerate their return.
The enforcement was carried out at the weekend during the monthly environmental exercise, specifically from Ojubode area through the Igbogbo market/park down to the Zumratul Islammiyah College junction, removing all the planks and wooden tables and counters.
Hon. Dawuda Oshinlaja, the Honourable Supervisor for Environment, IBLCDA, who led the monitoring team represented the Executive Chairman, IBLCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Aroyewun, who was out of town on official assignment. Also part of the team were the Chief Advisor to the IBLCDA Chairman, Lion Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa, Head of Administration/Council Manager, Mr. Babatunde Afolabi among others.

The team after the enforcement exercise in Ward C2, moved to Ward C3, for further inspection and monitoring.
The Supervisor for Environment spoke with THE IMPACT after the exercise.
“The focus of this month’s exercise is to enforce compliance with the state and local government environmental directives that there must not be any blockage of the drainage system in any way. All the people displaying their products on the medians and along the drainage system, we don’t want that anymore.
“We are sending them packing and we plan to sustain this and ensure that we clear those areas so that our drains can function properly. We are removing all those obstructions for the good of the community.”

“We do not want people occupying the medians or the drainage system anymore. We will continue to enforce this and ensure that the environment remains clean and healthy. We are going to sustain this and ensure that the frontage of the council is clean and well maintained, and we are committed to this,” Hon. Oshinlaja assured residents.
He added, “Sustainability will come through continuous enforcement and monitoring. I have already informed our JTF team that they must regularly monitor these areas. If any of these people return to display their products in prohibited places, they will be apprehended.”
The Supervisor for Environment commended residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA for their compliance and participation in the exercise and assured that the monitoring of the exercise will continue in subsequent exercises.

“I must sincerely commend the residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA. They have done wonderfully well and their participation has been impressive. People came out in large numbers to take part in the exercise.
“As I speak to you, there were one or two environmental offenders apprehended for failing to participate in the sanitation exercise. However, generally speaking, the people of Igbogbo/Baiyeku have done very well, and I want to express my appreciation to them for their cooperation and commitment.
“The Executive Chairman and his Vice Chairman, are fully committed to the issue of the environment and they have been actively involved in ensuring compliance. Under the leadership of the Chairman, we have covered Ward C1 and C2, and today, we moved to C3 to carry out environmental sanitation activities during which we represented the Chairman. The Vice Chairman was also represented alongside the Councillor of the ward. Having completed C3, we will move to C4 and C5, for subsequent monitoring.”

While addressing the issue of the PSP against the complaints by residents that they are not coming around to pick their wastes, Hon. Oshinlaja said the issue is affecting the generality of the state, adding that the local council authorities are working with the state government to address the challenges.
He appealed to residents to sustain their support for the government in ensuring that Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA is clean, healthy and safe for living.
“My appeal to the residents is for them to continue participating in environmental sanitation exercises as they have done in the past. They should remain committed to keeping their environment clean.

“I also want to assure them that the administration of Omoba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, remains fully committed to this cause. As you could see during the exercise, all the councillors, supervisors, and government officials were actively involved in the sanitation exercise.
“The government of Omoba Aroyewun is not relenting in its efforts to ensure that Igbogbo/Baiyeku remains clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly. The cleanliness and well-being of the people remain a top priority,” Hon. Oshinlaja said.
