The perennially flood-prone areas in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), have received major flood-control attention through a public-private partnership between the administration of the council Chairman, Omoba Hammed Aroyewun and the Hi-Tech Construction Company.

The Chairman, on Monday, conducted another on-the-site inspection of flood-affected communities across the council, to assess flood damages, identify root causes, and produce immediate directives and firm commitments to addressing drainage failures and preventing the recurring inundation across the council area.

This is part of the Chairman’s intervention that he promised at the weekend when THE IMPACT engaged him on the effect of not linking some streets to the main road that is being constructed by HiTech Construction, and which is causing flooding whenever it rains.

The tour by Omoba Aroyewun covered – Olorunfunmi Basorun Crescent to the back of Zumratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Igbogbo; Ayegbami (Olubushe) Area, Igbogbo; Adebola Faniyi Street Area, Igbogbo; Oba Molaja Road (Awotunde Lane & Club 24 Area, Igbogbo); Meri Road Area, Igbogbo; Moshood Hassan Street Area, Igbogbo; Orija Jogun Street Area, Igbogbo; Victory Close Area, Igbogbo and Afa Section, Igbe Laara Area.

With the Chairman on the inspection tour were his team and Mr. Dandre Gabar, Project Manager, HiTech Construction Company.

According to the Chief Press Officer (CPS) to the Chairman, Oluwaseun Ajayi, the Council boss established the Public Private Partnership (PPP) to overcome the challenges posed by the blockage of drainage channels.

“Upon observing devastating blockage of drainage channels by accumulated refuse and debris, which posed an environmental and flooding hazard, the Chairman took decisive on-the-spot action. He established a PPP arrangement with Hi-Tech Construction Company, represented by Mr. Dandre Gabar, the Project Manager who was present during the inspection.

“Immediately, personnel and heavy-duty equipment were deployed to address the issue and effective action was taken. The action yielded: Evacuation of the accumulated refuse from the drainage channels and surrounding areas; Desilting of the blocked drainage system and Clearing of obstructing debris and restoration of water flow”, he said.

The chairman lauded the intervention, as the immediate relief to residents and road users is evident.

“When I saw the condition of the drainage behind UAMC Eleja Primary School, I knew we could not wait another day. I immediately reached out to Hi-Tech Construction Company, and I am pleased they responded without delay”.

Chairman Aroyewun commended Hi-Tech Construction Company, especially its project manager for the speedy response and professionalism, highlighting the intervention as a strong example of the public-private partnership essential for delivering tangible results under his administration’s GLORY Agenda.

Beyond the emergency response, Hi-Tech Construction Company has formally committed to a continued drainage clearing and rehabilitation programme at the location. This follows a working session convened by the Chairman with the company’s Project Manager.

CPS Ajayi also stated that the PPP between the council and HiTech Construction Company, will continue to address the challenges in the coming days to have a flood -free Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
