Omo’ba Hameed Aroyewun, Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA during the sanitation exercise in Igbogbo on Saturday.

The Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Aroyewun, has assured residents of his council especially those within the Igbogbo Township whose street drainage systems have not been connected to the main drainage of Igbogbo/Bola Tinubu Road, which is ongoing, that the council is constant with its engagement with HiTech Construction Company, the contractor handling the project to do the needful.

He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to a clean environment, stating that a stakeholders’ meeting will be called to address the complaints of residents on the effectiveness of PSP operators.

Aroyewun spoke with THE IMPACT earlier today during the second edition of the re – introduced monthly environmental exercise on Saturday.

Some residents including Alhaji Adejoke Aminu, a caterer and prominent community leader, had accosted Chairman Aroyewun during the exercise at Basorun Crescent complaining about how their homes are usually flooded whenever it rains because Hitech has blocked the free -flow of their drainage system to the main drainage system that the company is constructing.

They also alleged that the PSP operator in their area has not been coming to pick their refuse despite the fact that they pay for their services.

“It has been a constant engagement with HiTech, the contractor handling the project. The Basorun Crescent junction which you referred to has been identified and so also another one at Club 24 Junction and yet, another one after 24 and we have called the attention of the contractor to these.

“They have intervened but not have not yet completed and we understand the concern of residents which has been channeled to the appropriate authorities and efforts are ongoing to address these concerns,” Chairman Aroyewun said.

Also speaking on the concern raised by residents over PSP operators, Aroyewun remarked:

“Residents must note that the residential areas PSP operators that normally come every week to pick their refuse have been complaining that residents have not been paying and we have been engaging them on this to let them know why they have to pay promptly.

“We have also encouraged the PSP operators to pick the refuse constantly as agreed. We are calling a stakeholders’ meeting during the week to address concerns raised,” he revealed to THE IMPACT.

Aroyewun said that his administration is doing everything to prevent environment abuse by providing compactors to cart away refuse from streets during the environmental exercise, an initiative he assured will be sustained for days.

“So far, so good, the operators have been on ground today and people are bringing their refuse out to dispose of them and it is going to be a continuous exercise. It will not be for today alone. We are going to make sure that the operators are still going to come around tomorrow and next tomorrow to pick their refuse.”

Aroyewun led a team of his cabinet members, aides and council staff to assess the environmental exercise at different parts of Igbogbo and also cleared refuse dumps at strategic locations.

During the exercise, some of the environmental offenders arrested at Basorun Crescent and Bola Tinubu Way, were made to engage in clearing during the exercise and thereafter released.
