The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom), Hon. Abike Dabiri -Erewa, has lauded the Direct Primaries initiative of the All Progressives Congress (APC) especially in Lagos State where the former three – term representative said that the process has transferred power back to the grassroots.

Hon. Dabiri -Erewa, who represented Ikorodu Federal Constituency between 2003 to 2015, also commended the process in the House of Representatives and Senatorial primary elections as peaceful.

She spoke at the Ikorodu phase of the Lagos East Senatorial primary election held at the Ikorodu Town Hall venue on Monday.

“I was here for the House of Representatives primary election and it was a fair one. We saw them count the votes and Jimi Benson emerged as the candidate.

Here we are for the Senatorial District primary which is actually unopposed, but you can see everybody turn out in large numbers.

For us in Lagos, the direct primary has gone very well, and you know what this means we can’t take it for granted, power has been transferred through the grassroots. This is what we are doing. From the Ward everybody is saying we want this person, what this means is that it deepens our democracy, and ensures participatory democracy.

So, I am glad to be from Ikorodu, and am sure Senator Abiru will be glad too that he has people turned out for him in large numbers,” Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa who had a field day at the primary election venue interacting and throwing banters at people from his political ward, lauded the large turnout of party members in Ikorodu.

“You know that in Ikorodu -Oga ko si alaru (there has never be a slave in Ikorodu). We have always been very good; you can see that we are out to support one of us. We have been singing, dancing, and we are here to support our party, and to show that APC is the one to beat.”

While thanking President Bola Tinubu for supporting the Direct Primary and providing good leadership, Hon. Dabiri-Erewa called on party members to come out in their large numbers to use their votes to return him to continue with his administration’s reforms.

“Saturday is for the president, and that one will shake everywhere. Of course, the president has done very well with his reforms. Though, it has been tough, but they are necessary. It is only a courageous leader that will do such a thing. We just came back from Kigali, honestly, he has been celebrated.

“He has achieved a stable economy through these reforms which are tough but they are necessary. We have to ensure that Mr President wins so that he can go on with his plans, and to keep the good legacy of his government. He has promised transparency, sincerity and, most importantly, he promised good leadership. He will win again,” Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa assured the gathering.
