The Ayangbure of Ikorodu and Permanent Vice Chairman, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr,) Kabir Adewale Shotobi, has appealed to residents of Ikorodu not to allow the inability of any of the governorship aspirants from Ikorodu to get the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to cause any problem.
The royal father pleaded for continuous support for the ruling and emphasised the need to maintain the top position in terms of votes in the forthcoming General Elections.
Oba Shotobi made the appeal at the weekend when Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, the representative of Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly paid a courtesy visit to the palace with some leaders of the ruling party in Ikorodu to seek the support of the traditional institution for his re -election bid.
Ayangbure who was in the forefront of the “Ikorodu for Governor” campaign, also said that Ikorodu as a division is not against President Bola Tinubu and his party for the governorship ticket disappointment.
“When we started the journey for “Ikorodu for Governor”, I called all the politicians in Ikorodu Division and all of them stood by us and one of them is here today. If we can’t achieve the mission, at least we can get another thing. We are not against Bola Ahmed Tinubu but I want people to know that we tried and anyone who doesn’t know the blessing of God would be the one talking ill of Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the monarch said.
Oba Shotobi explained further how he tried to make Ikorodu produce the next governor of the state:
“I tried. I wrote. I wanted to use the Awujale of Ijebu land before he passed on because I told him to allow us use the Ijebu in Lagos for the next governor because we are under him and that he helped us to call Tinubu and in the process of calling Tinubu, he fell sick.
“Good thing is not for one person alone but whoever God has anointed let’s support him and now, its in Hamzat’s (Lagos Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat) hands and the three candidates that we had have now given their support and solidarity to the anointed one, even Ambode has opted out of the race and Jandor who has collected the nomination form has withdrawn and go with the candidate and that shows that Tinubu is the pathfinder and master planner,” the royal father added.
Ayangbure appealed to stakeholders and residents of Ikorodu, asking them to let go and focus on voting massively for APC in the general elections for Ikorodu Division to maintain its electoral position.
“I don’t want us to lose our heads because of that and for us to be disunited and decide not to vote for APC. Let us go out and continue with the spirit and our votes must remain at the top. I want them to see our loyalty after what they have done to us and I stand with the APC,” Oba Shotobi said.
