For the society to be orderly and free of crime, government at all levels have been charged on the need to discharge their primary responsibilities to residents, while parents were also urged on the need to instill strict discipline in their children.
The guest lecturer at the 5th Oba Adeboruwa Annual Ramadan Public Lecture, CSP Raji Muhammed Jamiu, a police officer attached to Zone 2, Lagos, gave the charges, while also calling for best hands and brains to be enlisted into the various law enforcement agencies.
The lecture, themed, ‘Rising Insecurity: Causes, Effects and Islamic Remedies’, was held at the Adeboruwa palace on Sunday.

He lauded the royal father for sustaining the annual Ramadan lecture which he said is another way of contributing to a better society.
CSP Raji laid emphasis on the fading away of family values and parental roles in children’s lives as the root cause of bad behaviours and prevailing criminal activities in the society.
He added that parents’ failure account for major reasons why many children turned away from good ways, because they failed to put the fear of God in the lives of their children, cater for them and impact the essence of good life on them.

He urged parents to go back to instilling strict family values, home training and fear of God in their children.
The guest speaker also stated that the security and well – being of residents are squarely in the hands of the government and those elected, appointed and the civil servants in charge of implementing government policies and actions, and that these categories of people would be held accountable if people are unable to live good life and enjoy the basic needs.
He enjoined those in government to spread the resources in their care amongst the residents by providing food, shelter and basic facilities. He added that the lack of these are reasons for the crimes and problems facing communities.
The guest lecturer also called on the council chairman who was in attendance, to address the issue of food security by going into farming to produce food for the masses, while Adeboruwa and his chiefs were equally charged to provide lands for the purpose.

Also in the lecture, CSP Raji pointed out the roles of law enforcement agencies in ensuring orderly, crime free society and better society.
He charged those in authority to ensure that the best among the people are enlisted into the law enforcement agencies, to ensure discipline and proper discharge of duties.
He said that Nigeria failed in the area of enrolling good hands into law enforcement agencies, stating that that also accounts for reasons crime rate is high.
The lecturer expressed caution on the intense relationship between lawyers and police, and enjoined complimentary relationship between them instead of antagonistic one, in the interest of the society.
