A TRIBUTE TO SEVEN AND A HALF DECADES OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP: HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY, CHIEF AYODELE OLUWOLE ELESHO (KJW)

By Dr. Oluwole Solanke

Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho, KJW

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you on this momentous occasion!

It is with profound joy and deep reverence that I write to celebrate your 75th birthday – a milestone that marks not merely the passage of years, but the extraordinary impact of a life consecrated to service, leadership, and the upliftment of humanity. As the Psalmist declares, “The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon… They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green” (Psalm 92:12, 14). Indeed, your life exemplifies this divine promise.

From your humble beginnings at Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, through the hallowed halls of National College, Ebute-Metta, to your distinguished academic pursuits at the University of Lagos and international institutions in Bulgaria and Russia, you have consistently demonstrated an insatiable thirst for knowledge and excellence. Your journey resonates with the wisdom of Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

Your illustrious career spanning over five decades is a testament to unwavering dedication and transformative leadership. From your early days as a technician at Nigerian Oil Mills Limited to your pioneering role as Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Lagos State (1988-1996), you have been a champion of workers’ rights and social justice. Your service as Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism, and later for Information, Culture and Sports in Lagos State, demonstrated your capacity to transform vision into tangible reality. As Scripture reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Colossians 3:23).

Your contributions extend far beyond the corridors of public administration. As the Founding President of Ikorodu Ideal Club, Agba-Akin of Ikorodu Kingdom, and Balogun Onigbagbo of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ogijo Branch, you have been a beacon of community development and spiritual leadership. Your role as Balogun of Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral, Ikorodu, reflects your deep commitment to the faith that has guided you throughout your remarkable journey.

On behalf of the late Bishop and Mrs Kolawole Solanke, whose memory continues to inspire us, I honour your friendship, your mentorship, and your steadfast commitment to the values they held dear. Your life embodies the biblical exhortation: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

As you enter this distinguished phase of your life, may the Lord’s promise in Isaiah 46:4 be your assurance: “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” May your path continue to shine brighter, may your wisdom guide generations yet unborn, and may the fruits of your labor multiply abundantly.

May the Almighty bless you with continued health, vigor, and the joy of seeing your legacy flourish in the lives you have touched. As you reflect on 75 years of purposeful living, may you find deep satisfaction in knowing that you have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).

Happy 75th Birthday, Sir! May this new chapter be filled with God’s choicest blessings, divine favor, and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

With profound respect and warm wishes,

Dr. Oluwole Solanke, PhD, FCIB,
On behalf of Late Bishop Samuel Kolawole and Mrs Janet Mosunmola Solanke
